Lately, we see more and more women in Kimono strutting on Kyoto streets than a decade ago. I wonder if it is due to a trend to regard traditional fashion style highly, or simply the rise of businesses by kimono and tourism industries. The kimonos these women are wearing are called furisode. It is distinguished from regular-style kimonos by its long, trailing sleeves. Furisode kimonos are formal attire for young, and often maiden women. Therefore, they are often colourful and draw people’s attention.
