Still Loving You, Scorpions, Love At First Sting
This is one of the undeniably biggest power ballads of the 80’s. Still Loving You has so many deep meanings and inspirations to me. This album- this artist- this genera was very strictly forbidden by my family because rock and heavy metal were evil. This music was of the devil and I was a sinner if I listened to it… or so my parents and my church tried to convince me. Every day when my parents left for work I ran in and turned on MTv… sure enough this is one of the songs that played over and over.
This song has such a wonderful build up of emotion… a very haunting cord of the electric guitar in the beginning: it slowly builds up to a huge climax. This song really inspired me to be a singer (even though I truly never sing), mostly because I would “Air Mic” to this song… the same as an Air Guitar only as a singer. What can I say… I was a kid!
I always imagined slow dancing to this song when I was older. It seemed like it would be just a wonderful song to move to; even as a kid I was a romantic. I remember going to a dance and this song played. I got to see everyone else dance to this song except for me. But really in the moment I knew that I had no one to blame for myself because I was simply too chicken to ask anyone!
Years down the road I went through a break up. At first I was okay with it, but then I wanted the girl back. I was looking for a song that said exactly what I was trying to say. This song was it. When I really read the words wow… it was like I never heard this song before- or never paid much attention to it apparently. I wrote out the words and put it in a pretty card and delivered it with flowers… didn’t win her back, but it made me re-discover the song once again!
