This annual Sikh celebration is of great historical significance to those who are Sikh. In a sense, it's a birthday celebration of the founding of the religion and is a joyous occasion. There was a huge parade today which concluded in front of City Hall where there was celebrating, speech-making, and lots and lots of food.
Nathan Phillips Square was spectacular with all the bright colors for which Sikhs are known. I wandered through the crowd taking some street portraits and visiting with some of the celebrants who were very friendly and appreciated my interest in the occasion.

That outward form which the true king gave his khalsa; the Nihangs have kept in its original form to this day. Never mind that today it has become popular to consider Nihangs as a distinct sect or order. This is no distinct sect…this is the original form of the Khalsa.
