An old key from my wife's collection, above a modern one.

This is a 3 image HDR photo taken through a 12mm extension tube. The background is simply a book with a silvered cover which has reflected the brightly covered tablecloth beneath the assemblage

HMM all.

Taken just for the fun at the Swanage Folk Festival.

This week I've gone for a simple take on 'Made of Metal'. I had an idea in my head all week, but at the last moment it fell through, so this was as a result of a last minute scramble last night to get a submission ready.

I did consider making up three key's to success, but that just seemed a little pretentious to me. So I'll leave it as it is.

Happy Macro Monday!

Keys to open the doors of perception...?

Keys, better tools for the year 2025...?

-This is a mural/painting on a street, the remaining part of my previous dog photo.

Happy New Year to you who might see this :)

"I see my path, but I don’t know where it leads. Not knowing where I am going is what inspires me to travel it."

Sunrise in Key West, FL

High key rainy street shot from outside London King's Cross station.

I really boosted the highlight levels in Camera Raw, to produce this high key offering. This had the duel effect of really bringing out the failing rain in front of the woman's black clothing and bleaching out the unwanted distractions of the background. It has produced a bit of noise but is within acceptable levels I think.

A quick high key shot for the Macro Mondays Flickr group. In this case, the tines of an iridescent fork.

thanks to my flickr friends for their continued support while i was away.. you guys are the best

A large population of feral chickens inhabit Key West, Florida, reminders of the days when cock fighting was a sport on the island, and Ernest Hemingway spent hours in the local bars. Generations of released/escaped "Cubalaya" roosters have "cock-a-doodle-do-ed" their freedom and roamed free.

This handsome fellow is protected by law, but is not admired by all of the current residents of Key West. The chickens do provide local "color" and a link to the romantic past of Key West, but they are also noisy and messy. For now the Rhode Island Red hens/roosters still "rule the roost."

VICO 222 Assignment 5: Beautiful Light & High Key (Reshoot)

A macro view of a single key. The frame spans one-inch across.

This is the first of two images in this subject of "keys." Here is the other image.

Strobist/technical info:

The scene is a 13-image focus stack composite. It was illuminated by two Nikon SB900 speedlights, placed 50° CL and 40° CR two-feet away from and one-foot above the subject. They were fired in Manual mode @ ¼ +0.7EV power through Neewer 24" x 24" soft boxes.

The SB900's were triggered by three PocketWizard Plus X's.

It is hard to get an appreciation of their size with nothing to scale them against but that leave in the corner will give you some estimate.

On a recent photo trip through the Florida Keys we made a stop at the National Key Deer Refuge on Big Pine Key. We didn't see a lot of deer as usual but we did come across these two fawns which were about the size of a poodle..

The endangered Key deer is the smallest subspecies of the North American white-tailed deer. About the size of a large dog, the males may reach a shoulder height of one meter and 85 lbs but the females are much smaller.

Poaching and habitat loss reduced their number to a few dozen in the 1950s but establishment of the refuge and proper management has increased their number to about a thousand.

Key deer may be found on 20-25 islands of the lower Keys but 75% of the population lives on Big Pine and No Name Key.
