Day 143 of Gratitude

Curling

It's not something I've ever understood or chosen to watch. It is however something that upon seeing reminds me of some of my aunts and uncles and Granny. It was always on the TV at their house. We'd go spend the night and curling would be on TV. It's still not something I understand well but at least I got the jist of it. It's all thanks to scoring a ticket from my Aunt who couldn't go to the game. match...event. You see. Our town is hosting the 2011 Canada Cup. It's rather exciting for our town. Tons of people have come for it. Including some of my aunts and uncles and Granny. Now I feel like I'll probably never see curling live again so getting to see it for the first and probably only time with the only people in my life who watch it was pretty awesome. I asked questions, talked smack (which apparently you don't really do) and was in great company. I even recognized some of the faces I've seen on TV over the years on the Canadian teams like Kevin Martin and Jennifer Jones. Guess we'll see them at the Winter Olympics in Sochi next!

Here's how it went:

John Morris from team Canada at the Ford Men World Championship is in town. This is a world class event and we are very fortunate to have this come and boost our local economy. More of my images can be found here.. but this one was my fave of the bunch :) Canada beat Norway 9-2 and is unbeaten so far in the tournament! Go Canada GO!!

Rising North County High School 9th graders studied with spoken word artist, Femi the DriFish, and steel pan musician, Kevin Martin, in a one-week Arts + Math Summer Bridge camp! The students spent their time immersed in arts-integrated math classes in both spoken word and steel pan, culminating in a performance at Six Flags at the week's end. 9th grade Algebra students and teachers at North County High School will continue to work with the artists throughout the year to build students' confidence and skills in mathematics.
