Thank you to Sam Post for the title.

Tree line the rocks along the Kern River Canyon near its mouth in Sequoia National Forest east of Bakersfield California. The canyon cuts through granodiorite (an intrusive igneous rock similar to granite) that is part of Sierra Nevada Batholith.
I did this hike a couple days ago. The trail is just outside of Bakersfield, CA. One of the most beautiful hikes I've done so far and I've done quite a few hikes.
I spent a few hours on Canebrake Ecological Reserve on my way to Kern River Preserve. I was happy to get some images of this Coyote. I ended up getting some Bobcat images at Kern River Preserve. Two great protected nature preserves.
Visit some time if you can.

A Southern Pacific GP9 passes the landmark Kern Junction tower near Bakersfield, California. This is the point where the SP and the Santa Fe come together for the eastbound climb to Tehachapi. The near track is the Santa Fe.
The river is full of water! Great news for recreation and businesses in the region.

This is the second part of two shot on a Sunday afternoon in rather threatening weather conditions that quickly turned to fine drizzle, then real rain.
Out of camera jpeg with no edits apart from some slight sharpening.
Olympus Pen E-P5 with an early 1950s C mount movie camera lens, the Kern Switar 25mm f/1.5 (approx 50mm equivalent on MFT). I was curious to see what it would make of the nature scenes and the conditions.
I still think it's one of the nicest lenses I have. But scarcely usable on APS-C (strong vignetting) and not at all on full frame.
I've been to many beautiful places while traveling across the country, but this area of California ranks at or near the top of the list. Unfortunately the camera can't capture that beauty completely.
What could be better than some free dispersed camping with hardly anyone around along the Kern River above Kernville on a fine sunny spring day....

A sudden clearing after a heavy rain from the Southern Sierra Foothills in Kern County, CA. Have a wonderful weekend to everyone!
Few days ago, Rishabh and I went to a relatively unknown hot spring near Bakersfield, California. This Sulphur laden natural ‘hot tub’ sits right next to the ice-cold Kern river in a quiet and picturesque bend of the river’s canyon. There is something instinctively nice about getting in a hot tub full of strangers wearing minimum clothes and fewer anxieties. After settling down, we got chatty with our tub-neighbors immediately. Every one seemed happy and content. Soaking in the heat and the rotten smell of Sulphur, I wondered why so many people prefer paying entertainment parks a king’s ransom instead of coming to places like this where, for free, our senses can pick up happiness from thin air.

If you look closely top right corner, a house sitting on top of the hill with a great view of the undulating green hills. Have a great weekend to all.
