A photo taken from an observation tower in Kep National Park toward the east. The park is characterised by an evergreen tropical forest consisting of endemic species such as Cinnamomum cambodianum and Castanopsis combodianum as well as Dipterocarps species.

The area in Cambodia facing the Gulf of Thailand receives more precipitation than the Tonle Sap basin where Phnom Penh and Siem Reap are located. The climate type of the gulf coast is Am (tropical monsoon), while that of the Tonle Sap basin is Aw (tropical savanna). The vegetation of the former is characterised by lush evergreen or semi-evergreen forests, while the latter is by deciduous open forests that shed leaves in the dry season.

This photo was taken at one of the seafood restaurants lining up along the seashore beside the Kep seafood market. It was super delicious although detaching meat from the shell was a labour intensive task. It is worth going to Kep for the crab.

Amok is a national dish of Cambodia cooked with spices, herbs, coconut milk, seafood etc. It is a curry-like dish but has a distinctive flavour.

The species of the crab is sand crab or blue swimmer crab (Portunus pelagicus) that occurs in Western Pacific and Indian Ocean.

Going back through the archives from my trip to Cambodia i realised there's loads of long exposures i never got around to finishing, so here i shall bring them to the light of day.

I thought i'd go for colour on this one as it seemed a shame to loose the vivid shades of blue.

KIN U NOT REED?

DANG IT!

Fishermen bringing in their catch of crabs at dusk at Kep on the south coast of Cambodia.

There's an open market right next to the quayside and the catch gets cooked and sold as soon as it is landed.
