Walking towards south bound platform at Kennington Station.
Luke Agbaimoni - Tubemapper.com
I have tried to imagine what those first tube stations would have been like (with steam engines bellowing out smoke and poor lighting from gas lights) full of grime and sytgian darkness. So this is my, modern, interpretation of what it could have been like...

I am sometimes asked how I manage to get Underground Station shots with few people in them when most peoples experience is packed platforms and trains. The answer is time of day and distance from the centre. This one was taken at 2.40pm and at Kennington on the Northern Line well south of the busiest areas. I was changing trains and spotted an opportunity here with some framing. I took a lot of shots while looking out for anybody rushing onto the platform from behind me. Initially the lady on the left was out of the perfect position partly hidden by the wall but she moved up the platform a little into the perfect position. Out of the shots I took this was the ideal one with the train door lining up with the man in the centre.
The picture was taken handheld with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 mm lens at 10mm.. Single image processed first in RAW. Even after recovery in RAW the whites on the train were still too bright so I used a brightness/contrast adjustment layer to bring down the whites only on selected areas using a layer mask. Noise was reduced using Nik Define and more detail with Topaz Clarity. Straighten tool to line up and crop tool to focus on the people while keeping the frame.
