Lake Kel Suu in eastern Kyrgyzstan near the Chinese border. This is a beautiful place to visit although difficult to reach and whilst for most places a 4 wheel drive is not required, if you want to visit here it will be.

Kelly Hall Tarn, near Torver in the Lake District is a good location for both sunset and sunrise if the conditions are right. Like many spots in the Lake District though, it has not escaped the devastation caused by Storm Arwen. One of the bigger fir trees by the tarn shore has been ripped up by its roots and lies toppled on its side, changing the look just to the right of this lop sided pine tree.
I didn’t expect much of a sunset and nearly went back to the car and drove home after a long day walking up around Borrowdale and Buttermere. But like the ever optimistic fellow I am, I hung around hoping that the light and clouds would improve and around sunset it certainly did.
I liked the cloud reflections in the Tarn leading back to the tree in this shot.
Another shot from my recent trip to the Lake District of Kelly Hall Tarn. This was the very last shot of the evening, and also the trip.
The sun had just set and it seemed that the light had more or less gone by this time, as had the other photographer who had been occupying this area whilst I was shooting from the other side.
At the time I wasn’t that keen with the shot; as mentioned the light had virtually gone, and on the back of the camera it didn’t look that much. And so I didn’t refine it; I needed to move the angle down slightly to get more of the tree’s reflection, but I didn’t want the bank I was standing on in shot, also I was rushing a bit as it was getting late. But once processed I actually saw more in the image; the soft light that was remaining provided great highlights to the tree, and a very peaceful serene scene for the end of the trip. I’m sure had I spent a little more time I could have got a better framing, but who knows, by then the light might have been worse. C’est la vie!

A couple of days up in The Lakes and a visit to Kelly Hall Tarn to begin with. Forecast was quite promising but the wind changed direction about an hour before sunset leaving a cloudless sky over the Coniston Fells so I waited until the sun had got low enough for a little colour to show and had a walk around the tarn and up the bank on the right hand side.
The reeds and lily pads stood out, as did the single tree separated from the three trees further to the right. Great little location that's less than five minutes from the bumpy car park but has quite an isolated feel to it.
The Old Beechworth Gaol played a major role in the story of Ned Kelly, housing Ned (many times) his mother Ellen, his brother Dan, and many of his supporters.
The four men who wore suits of armour were Ned Kelly, Joe Byrne, Steve Hart and Dan Kelly.

We had a spare couple of hours before sunset so travelled to Kelly Hall Tarn to have a look at the damage to the fallen tree.
I've looked at many images recently from here and despite being informed of it's tiny size I'm not sure I was ready for just how small it is.
The tree has been chopped up and is laying in a jumbled pile ready to have the wood taken away and I can see how it has spoiled the aesthetics compared to the images I've viewed.
It was enjoyable to attempt to find compositions from the other side of the lake although I am aware that this composition isn't a new one. 5 minutes from the car park too, so my kind of location.

One of Kelly's friends passed through Taos as she was moving from the East Coast to the West Coast, a long drive. We enjoyed a late lunch/early dinner and took this photo after she came to our house to meet Stella.

She loved the pillow I made for PTS6, and so instead of our normal fabric swap at the end of each PLPS round, we decided to make a mini for each other.
It is strange for me to have new friends outside of work. For decades my social life has been work, with only a handful of friends outside the office that I would see only on vacations or special events. It was always work and then home to the TV, books, my photography and lately my beloved dogs. But suddenly I find myself having new friends inviting me out to dinners, over for games, out to the movies, or just stopping by. It is just surprising. I'll be 50 in 37 days and I am as awkward outside of work as as school child on a first date.
But it is so nice to have friends that care about me. This is a photo of Kelly, a new co-worker and friend.
