While it’s gun hunting season, Mike and I have been hunting litter in hunt-free areas of our favorite local parks & recreation areas. We always bring a small bag with us to pick up whatever we see on the trails, which usually isn’t much (thankfully). However, once we started going through some of the campgrounds, we found a lot. It’s sad how much people litter when it’s so easy to carry out what you carry in.
I encourage everyone to go litter hunting. You can do it anywhere, it’s always open season on litter, and it leaves things better than you found them.
the second part of the trip involved a visit to Wanaka before stopping overnight at the Lake Hawea Hotel. The actual lake itself (Hawea) is located in the Otago region at an altitude of around 348 metres. The lake itself is named in Maori and is thought to be named after a local tribe, however, at the time no information was available as to the actual meaning of the name.

We set off to hike at a conveniently located rest stop area just past Lake Louise in Banff National Park.
We started by reading a sign that outlined roughly what type of hike it was and how to get to Taylor Lake. It was about 6 km and a total elevation change of 500 feet.
We decided to go for a walk. A couple hours in on our ambitious endeavor, we came across this wooded corridor that seemed to go on forever and aligned perfectly with the morning sun.
For some reason, when you are out in the mountains, every hour is golden hour. It was exceptionally magical for the quick rest stop photo session in the trees, pure delight.
I am kicking myself now for not bringing the reflector, it would have really balanced out the light but now realizing how heavy every item you take with you can be, it was a good choice to leave it behind.
There are numbers and letters carved into this pine, and the light reflecting off the tree was perfect.

One of the worlds most visited icons was rejected by various Parisian communities sparking protests before the Eiffel Tower was constructed in the 1880’s. This just shows the results of perseverance and to never giving up on your dreams and that nothing is impossible if you stay focused on your goal. Keep dreaming and you too can change the world.

The fjord in Djupavik, Iceland. We hung out, photographing the beautiful sunset across the fjord, during one of Iceland's gorgeous, hours-long sunset. One of the photographers, Suzanne, noted that the colors were finally started to fade. However, just ten minutes later, to our surprise, the colors began growing more intense again, and we quickly realized that we were now watching a very slow sunrise.

In The Glow Of The Long Setting Sun (2016-06-22 21:36)
Route 1, or Ring Road, has many scenes with fantastic beauty. When I saw how the sun was illuminating this mountain and the beautiful meadow of lupines, I immediately pulled over and set up my camera. The beautiful lighting went away, but I thought I would remain there, hopeful that the clouds would part and this would be cast in a beautiful, buttery glow again. The golden hour. And thankfully, that happened. Most of the time I was in Iceland, it was overcast. But at this moment, magic occurred. And when these moments occur, I want to give it a big giant hug and a kiss and savor it.
Throughout Iceland, there were many beautiful fields of lupine, whether here in the south part of Iceland or in the Westfjords. Being from California, this made me feel quite at home. Nikon D610/Nikkor 28-300mm. 1s f/8 ISO 100.

Svartifoss is probably my favorite waterfall in Iceland so far. And on an island where it seems like there are more waterfalls than people, that's really saying something. Svartifoss (Black Falls) is a waterfall in Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park in Iceland, and is one of the most popular sights in the park. It is a breathtaking waterfall, 12 meters high, with black columnar basalt formations which beautifully frame the waterfall and give it its name, Black Fall.
