Had a short evening trip to Mt. Wallberg in Pforzheim, where I experimented with strong foreground elements in vertical landscape shots. A typical example for a foreground which doesn't look that spectacular on location, but really helps to catch the eye on the photograph.

Let's start my 2021 releases with a photography from a very warm summer day in June of 2020. It shows the view down into the Kirnbach valley, seen from Wurmberg. Enz valley in the background and in the very far distance, you can even guess the Palatinate Forest.

Nice sunset taken from Tannenberg in Niefern, showing the mountain range Mt. Mauzenberg (765 m), Mt. Bernstein (694 m) and Mt. Tannschachberg (707 m) near Bad Herrenalb and Bernbach on the far left horizon. On the right you can see the watertower Wartberg (39 m) in Pforzheim.

When I saw those fantastic cirrus clouds, I was absolutely sure that it would become a nice afterglow, today. So we went out for a small walk and I took the camera with me. While Désirée gave me tips what to photograph and in which direction, I cared about focus and a proper exposure.

A nice trip into the Northern Black Forest and a short hike to the look-out tower Hohlohturm (988,3 m) offered us a wide view over the valley Murgtal with the villages Weisenbach (left) and Gernsbach (mid and right) with the church. On the right hillside, you can see the rock formations Rockertfelsen and Dachsstein over the valley Reichental. The middle peaks in the far background belong to Merkur (668 m) and Battert (567,9 m).

Those days I was watching a giant storm cloud moving in from the west. Short after the image was taken, the wind picked up and the roll of thunder began. Back in the car the rain pattered onto the windshield and got stronger and stronger as I was driving home.

It is quite amazing what different scenes are offered over the seasons. This one was captured in peak autumn when fresh morning light striped the hill in front of our bedroom window.
