I've had this picture in my photo archives for a few years, and decided to release it now for the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Seven years after that devastating disaster, we traveled to New Orleans. We did a swamp tour on the Old Pearl River and Richardson Bayou, and passed this shipwreck as the tour concluded. The guide explained to us the boat was moved 40 miles from New Orleans to this spot. This shipwreck is not unique. After Katrina, both the New Orleans and Louisiana governments attempted to contact the owners of this and other lost property that had been located. They left the property where it was for the cases where they couldn't identify the owner or they presumed dead. Slowly being claimed by the water, this boat is now one of Katrina's Ghosts.

One from early on in teaching myself how to take portraits. The light on Katrina was from a store window.
My first shoot with Katrina was rather wonderful, though I think we got more carried away with conversation than with the shoot.
this was shot with the Anniversary Speed Graphic and Aero Ektar, on roll film.
I've been trying to find a way to show off kats pigtails without just being a photo of the back of her head cause, seriously, HOW interesting is that? Eve as her mother, i can admit - not very.
Then it struck me as i was brushing her hair this morning. she always insists at looking in the mirror or playing with the bandaids from behind the mirror. i let her cause it keeps her distracted (almost) long enough to finish.
Of course, bad timing on my part had her face bisected by the mirror itself since it isn't a solid piece but actually two doors.
Nothing to worry about. almost 2 hours in photoshop, and the VERY visible line of where the mirror doors overlap is gone and her face and shirt are fixed. :)
Wheel wells are visible again, and bathtub rings decorate the sides of the white car.
What you can't see? Millions of mosquito larvae boiling just below the surface.
First edit using CS5... cant wait to start shooting some new work.

This was from only my 4th shoot. Katrina is another New Yorker. I remember this shoot being good fun. We stopped and got taco's. Katrina ordered three and was initially shocked at the price. Then they came out. They were WAY bigger than she was expecting:) . She's good friends with Cheree. It was after this shoot that Cheree got in touch with me to ask if I'd like to shoot her. That felt quite good.
This is the colour version of the b+w one I posted a few weeks ago. Different crops, different moods.

Katrina riding in local transport called a jeepney in Philippines.
Those eyes say many things. One that comes to my mind is, "I wonder if there's anyplace for me in the world."
I don't think she's looking at anything: it seems to me she's just looking away, wanting to detach herself from life.
