Had another wonderful trip to Martha's Vineyard. Tropical Storm Hermine spent time off the coast for while we were there...providing wonderful clouds and light at South Beach nearly every night. Hard to capture what it really looked like...we spent hours on the beach every night, mesmerized by the light and waves.
A foggy sunrise on South Beach, Martha's Vineyard. Rising in the pre-dawn hours to arrive at the beach before first light, I'd hoped for a beautiful sunrise. When we arrived at the beach the fog was so thick I knew there'd be little color. What we had instead was mysterious and moody... only the sound of waves rolling in through the fog, just my husband and I with the ocean to ourselves.
This scene was one of the final shots of that morning, the fog just beginning to lift, adding soft light to the land.

Handheld, about half a second icm at South Beach at sunrise. Funny how you don't feel the cold or any discomfort on a morning like this.
nrhp # 87001465- Edgartown Harbor Light is a lighthouse located in Edgartown, Massachusetts, United States, where it marks the entrance to Edgartown Harbor and Katama Bay. It is one of five lighthouses on the island of Martha's Vineyard. The first lighthouse, a two-story wooden structure that also served as the keeper's house, was constructed in 1828. It was demolished, and replaced by the current cast-iron tower, in 1939. Originally located on an artificial island 1/4 miles (~ 400 meters) from shore, the lighthouse is now surrounded by a beach formed, since 1939, by sand accumulating around the stone causeway connecting it to the mainland.

Chappaquiddick Island colloquially known as "Chappy", a part of the town of Edgartown, Massachusetts, is a small peninsula and occasional island on the eastern end of Martha's Vineyard. Norton Point, a narrow barrier beach, connects Martha's Vineyard and Chappaquiddick between Katama and Wasque (pronounced way-sqwee). Occasional breaches occur due to hurricanes and strong storms separating the islands for periods of time.
Chappaquiddick became internationally known following an incident in July 1969, when U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy accidentally drove his car off the island's Dike Bridge and his 28-year-old passenger drowned inside.
The name Chappaquiddick comes from a Native American word "cheppiaquidne" meaning "separated island", so named because this island is separated from Martha's Vineyard by a narrow strait or gut. The island has been historically spelled "Chaubaqueduck" or, alternatively, "Chappaquidgick". The island was once mainly the home territory of the Chappaquiddick band of Wampanoag Indians, and remained exclusively theirs well into the nineteenth century. They still have a reservation of about 100 acres (40 ha) (40 hectares) of brush land in the interior. Early colonists settled Edgartown in 1642, and quickly proclaimed Chappaquiddick as village property. The first homes owned by people of exclusively European descent were built around 1750; these residents raised livestock and farmed the land.www.susanfordcollins.com

The 4th shot from my "This is not the Lighthouse" morning.
My husband and I had risen at 4:40am to drive to Edgartown Lighthouse and capture the sunrise there. Found 'No Parking' signs covering the local streets and switched to a back-up plan, watching the sunrise at Wilson's Landing on Edgartown Great Pond. Driving back from the pond, our route followed the sun and found this lovely field washed in gold.
