Who told you that people in prehistoric times, in the glorious period of "Ur-Kommunismus", were living in freedom, equality, without exploitation or alienation and with plenty of leisure time? And that the abolition of Capitalism would give us a chance of 'returning' to this situation? Where did you get this knowledge from? It's faith, Karl, is it not? It is an important faith though. And there is nothing wrong with faith as long as we know that we believe. If we believe that we know, however, everything goes wrong.

[...] A chaque pas , la vue est offensée , l'oreille abasourdie et l'odorat désespéré , nous nous demanderons bientôt: - A QUOI BON L'ORDRE?

We have no compassion and we ask no compassion from you. When our turn comes, we shall not make excuses for the terror. But the royal terrorists, the terrorists by the grace of God and the law, are in practice brutal, disdainful, and mean, in theory cowardly, secretive, and deceitful, and in both respects disreputable.

'Teatro Karl Marx' in La Habana - Miramar (1949), formerly known as the 'Teatro Blanquita' and 'Charles Chaplin', and renamed after the Cuban Revolution of 1959. The venue has an enormous auditorium, with seating capacity of 5500 people (8000 people in total), and is generally used for big shows by stars from Cuba and abroad. In 2001, the theatre was the scene of a concert by the Welsh rock band Manic Street Preachers, which was attended by President Fidel Castro himself. On being warned by the band that they would be playing very loud, Castro responded, "You cannot be louder than war!". - In the foreground a Chevrolet Bel Air, about 1954, built five years after the theater ;-)

My little empire for 10 years in the children home "Egon Schultz" in Rostock (former GDR). From that distance it looks almost cosy - I really don't know how that could happen!

The postcard on the left shows one of my few joys, "der kleine Maulwurf" (the little mole) - a czech cartoon series shown on GDR television. Only many years later I realised that one of the most popular cartoon characters in the GDR was a tunnel digging mole. And mole is also in German a synonym for a spy. :)

I've taken this photo in 2018, when the city of Trier celebrates the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx,s birthday-

Where have you been?

"Look, I do know that some of my predictions did not materialise the way I thought they would. Royalty in Britain has shown a shocking tenacity, I give you that. And yet, the monarchy in Britain is and remains a feudal hangover. It is a poodle kept alive by capitalism and is used to block any attempt at redistributing wealth and power - in particular when the monarchy is dressed as an old lady!"

Still, we missed you at Buckingham Palace. You were not even on stage yesterday.

"The truth is that I was not invited. And my new socialist manifesto is not yet ready. But you know what? I am a permanent resident of London. It is inevitable that I will be back."

Thanks for the interview, Karl.

Your hope - even your 'theory' - was that the socialisation of the means of production would end human misery. Granted, the red elites trying to realise your theory failed, partly because their views of socialisation were incomplete as they themselves (and not society) wanted to control it. Their understanding of 'means of production' was way too narrow and did not give enough space and autonomy to the fields of intellectual thought and religious sentiment. After the catastrophes of the 20th century we are all a bit wiser (hopefully). But could you ever have imagined that "Facebook", the matador of a late capitalist and manipulative culture industry, would sail under the flag of the socialisation of the means of communication? Rotate in your grave, Karl!

You may wish to come up with your own interpretation. But I did use an ND filter and five small LED spotlights.

I don't think there is even one Megapixel in this image. Perhaps half of it. We don't need that much light and pixels to create the plasticity of a shape. Chiaroscuro is a technique the photographer has inherited from Italian renaissance paintings. It means to be very very economical with light and use the interplay of darkness and light to bring out the form or, as here, the face. My apologies to Carlo, of course. On the other hand, darkness and light and its interplay may be an appropriate way of describing his impact on history. This image was taken with a 16MP camera (Fuji X-E2) and a portrait lens (double exposure).

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, and stay safe! ❤️❤️❤️

The Karl Marx statue is a monument on Simeonstiftplatz in Trier. It was unveiled in May 2018 to mark the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx's birth in his native city. The work by sculptor Wu Weishan is a gift from the People's Republic of China.

Karl's grave is in Highgate Cemetery, London. He died about 150 years ago. There are plenty of pilgrims from around the world visiting the place, hoping perhaps for his return, others are convinced that he is already dwelling among us. This is "global Britain", though not quite the kind the Tory government has in mind. Samyang 300mm F6.3 tele lens, window light.

Half an hour earlier I was standing on the banks of the Moselle and finished my planned shots with the disappearance of the moon behind the tree tops.

Then I moved away from the banks of the Moselle with the hope of finding a suitable place in the city canyons to take photos at a greater distance.

Being so unprepared can quickly lead to nasty surprises ... but actually it worked really well, fits perfectly ;-)

Chetham's library, the oldest public Library in the English speaking world, Long Millgate, Manchester Greater Manchester.

The Library was established in 1653 under the will of Humphrey Chetham for the education of "the sons of honest, industrious and painful parents". It has been in continuous use as a free public library for the 350 years since.

The Library began acquiring books in August 1655, and has been adding to its collections ever since. It holds more than 100,000 volumes of printed books, of which 60,000 were published before 1851. They include collections of 16th- and 17th-century printed works, periodicals and journals, local history sources, broadsides and ephemera. The entire collection at Chetham’s Library has been designated as one of national and international importance.

Chetham's was the meeting place of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels when Marx visited Manchester in the summer of 1845. The economics books Marx was reading at the time can be seen on a shelf in the library, as can the window seat where Marx and Engels would meet. The research they undertook during this series of visits to the library led ultimately to their work on The Communist Manifesto.

Paintings featured as a part of the library's vast fine arts collection library include portraits of William Whitaker, the Reverend John Radcliffe, Robert Thyer, the Reverend Francis Robert Raines, and Elizabeth Leigh. An Allegory with Putti and Satyrs, oil on canvas, attributed to sixteenth century artist and Netherlander Vincent Sellaer, is also a prominent part of the Chetham's Library collection

Karl Marx & Friedrich Engels, DEFA Film von 1991

This point and shoot photo of statues of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels was taken in January 2010 in Marx-Engels-Forum in Berlin. The statues were created by the sculptor Ludwig Engelhardt, who was also the director of the 1997 project to redevelop the park as a tribute to Marx and Engels, in what was then the German Democratic Republic. The building in the background is Berlin Cathedral (Der Berliner Dom).
