Wahat Al Karama is a permanent tribute to UAE’s brave soldiers and other Emiratis who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the Nation. Wahat Al Karama is a place where citizens, residents and visitors to the UAE can pay homage to those who selflessly gave their life to a cause greater than themselves.
Wahat Al Karama” literally means “the oasis of dignity” – a fitting title for the site chosen to immortalise the names of the heroes who gave their lives for the UAE.
The Memorial itself comprises 31 massive aluminium-clad tablets, each leaning on the other, symbolising the unity, solidarity and mutual support that bind together leadership and citizens with the servicemen and women who protect them.
This handsome antelope, the Laikipia Hartebeest also known as the Jacksons Hartebeest, is now found only in Kenya, in the Laikipia highlands and the Lambwe Valley of Nyanza. It is a crossbreed between the more common common subspecies of Coke's hartebeest and the endangered Lelwel Hartebeest.
This beautiful antelope was captured during a photography safari on an early morning game drive in the El Karama Ranch, Kenya.
2007 Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque taken from the Wahat Al Karama - Oasis of Dignity.
We visited the mosque earlier that day. You can visit as non Muslim. This is the biggest mosque in the UAE. There is a huge parking and at the parking you have to take an escalator down which takes you into a mall. From the mall you have these moving walkways which takes you to the mosque. From the parking to the mosque is about half a kilometer; all underground! Back above ground you'll have some time to see the mosque's exterior and at the end the interior. It is very pretty. They have rules: knees and shoulders should be covered by clothing and woman have to cover there hair. For small kids it is less strict.
This is shot from the Oasis of Dignity which is on the other side of the highway. There is a war memorial to commemorate those who were killed fighting for the country. Next to it is this round 'lake' which contains a thin layer of water which returns a nice reflection of the mosque.
Technical: three frame handheld exposure bracketing (1 2/3 EV steps) on electronic shutter. HDR merge with Photomatix Pro. Viltrox 27mm Tony 1.2 wide open! This thing is SHARP!

Opposite the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi is the Wahat al Karama, a memorial to the country's soldiers. The central square is determined by a flat water surface, in which the large mosque is reflected
This is a view from the 5th floor. (See the largest opening at the top on the east-facade in the previous photo) You have to climb up and down through square-cut chimneys like on the bottom left.
This is my last image of a three week trip to United Area Emirates and Oman. I spent two days in Abu Dhabi, two days in Dubai, two weeks overlanding with 4x4 rental car in Oman and finally one more night in Abu Dhabi.
It was a memorable last evening with the sun setting behind the mosque while hearing the imam singing and calling for the last prayer of the day.

The amazing Sheikh Zayed Mosque from Wahat Al Karama Memorial. If you are looking to get the ultimate photo of the Grand Mosque, this it it ! Although you can get some amazing photos of the Mosque from inside (stay tuned, more to come), stepping back and seeing it from afar is impressive. Not to mention the perfectly placed water feature on the ground which creates an amazing reflection…

This a real reflection of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque of Abu Dhabi in the pool located at the Martyr's monument of Wahat al Karama.
The Dubai Frame [the winning design conceived by Fernando Donis] is created out of glass, steel, aluminum, and reinforced concrete. It is built to resemble a huge gilded picture frame, through which landmarks representing modern Dubai such as Emirates Towers and Burj Khalifa can be seen on one side, while from the other side, visitors can view older parts of the city such as Deira, Umm Harare and Karama. The structure is too slender to serve any practical purpose, per se; it does not house office space or hotel rooms. Rather, it’s intended as an Eiffel Tower-esque monument to symbolize the city.
Entrance to the attraction is through an “immersive” gallery of smells, projections and mist effects to illustrate the city’s history, while exit is via what is described as a “vortex tunnel.”
“The idea is to create an illusion of time travel through a warp vortex and arriving into the city 50 years ahead,” reads an official description. National Post
As of 2018, the architect and the Municipality of Dubai were engaged in a legal dispute over ownership of the copyright for the building which is a void of 150m by 105m.

At the moment you are somewhat limited in the choice of your photo motifs. So I rummaged around on my hard drive - it's almost like reliving the vacation ...
So far I thought that this motif lives from the colors. But since I already have two colored versions of it in my portfolio, I experimented with a black and white development and was pleasantly surprised by the result.
The bat-eared fox (Otocyon megalotis) is a species of fox found on the African savanna, named for its large ears, which are used for thermoregulation.
The bat-eared fox (also referred to as big-eared fox, black-eared fox, cape fox, and Delalande’s fox) has tawny fur with black ears, legs, and parts of the pointed face. It averages 55 cm in length (head and body), with ears 13 cm long. It is the only species in the genus Otocyon.
Bat-eared foxes are highly social animals. They often live in pairs or groups of up to 15 individuals, and home ranges of groups either overlap substantially or very little. Individuals forage, play, and rest together in a group, which helps in protection against predators.
