I seek a strange shore, but I am not Ulysses... let no one bind me when the mermaids sing.
Somewhere under your skin, running through blood you're alive. Flood my veins... my veins.

Created for the "Award Tree" Group's challenge, "Red & White Fudge".
It's great to be challenged to step outside of one's usual palette and take on one that's so restricted ( red & white ). Limitations like that are some of the greatest spurs to creativity as one is forced to work inventively without resort to a lot of the usual options. So it was great to take a day and dig in to produce a set of 5 images to fit the "Award Tree" challenge theme.
This and the four following "red & white" images all work with black as the "magic third". It seemed impossible for me to create anything of much interest using just red and white. And sometimes my reds verge on oranges due to their being made so transparent that they lost most of their saturation. Or, in some cases they were mixed so far into the black that they became almost browns. So, in the end, a very wide range of reds were used.
The title for the image is the subtitle to David Sylvian & Ryuichi Sakamoto's song, "Heartbeat ( Tainai Kaiki II ). Music Link below. The video is extraordinary.

Little dolphin:
Tremble... windows... branches lick... cheeks... study... drops... hands... pale stones... leaves from trees... marble from steel... slow air rocks... rocks...
Little Mai:
Si no estoy aquí... ¿tus ojos se ven iguales?
Little dolphin:
Heartbeat (Tainai Kaiki II) - Ryuichi Sakamoto
Little Mai:
Sayonara, little dolphin... Sayonara.
Little dolphin:
Si. Sayonara, little Mai... Sayonara.

The Toba Aquarium is a former public aquarium located in Toba Bay, opened in 1955. It was built by Haruaki Nakamura, who began by creating a "handcrafted" aquarium without pretensions or modern or luxurious facilities. It was a manual project, until he gradually transformed it into one of the largest and oldest aquariums in Japan. This is why this aquarium, although it has modernized its facilities, has never intended to become a "megalomaniac" aquarium like those in Kyoto, Osaka, and other cities around the world, combining modern facilities and preserving elements of its origins with a certain nostalgic atmosphere of decades past in its older facilities. Although not as modernized and spectacular as those mentioned above, it is one of the most visited aquariums in Japan and of greatest relevance within the scientific community. Nakamura's motivation was a deep interest and appreciation for marine life. His initiative, which began as a modest personal project, demonstrates a commitment to creating a space where the public could learn about and appreciate ocean biodiversity and turning it into a highly regarded center for marine research, education, and conservation in Japan. Toba Aquarium has been noted for its contributions to research, breeding, and conservation efforts for rare or endangered species, such as the dugong, the finless porpoise, dolphin species, and most notably the Commerson's dolphin. The aquarium has a history of successfully breeding various marine species and has been part of hundreds of research, breeding and conservation work programs throughout its history, which has earned it special recognition from the scientific community.

An image dedicated to the collective memory of all the hundreds of thousands of dolphins cruelly hunted and killed in Taiji Cove.
PS: Taiji:
Art, culture, and tradition of the annual dolphin slaughter in Taiji, Japan. I warn you that the images are hard to watch. The Japanese government condones such brutality because it is a traditional hunt and only 1,800 dolphins are killed each year. During hunting season, the cove area is fenced off, with no access possible and is sealed off by police forces. Access to the cove where the dolphin slaughter takes place is restricted and monitored by police. Dolphin Project and Action for Dolphins continue to document and report these hunts each year, which far exceed the false figures provided by the Japanese Fisheries Agency. The cruel dolphin slaughter in Taiji came to light and was exposed in the American documentary "The Cove," which was secretly filmed using high-tech cameras. In March 2010, "The Cove" won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The number of dolphins slaughtered cruelly has been decreasing over the years, not for ethical reasons but rather due to the decreasing demand for this type of meat. However, in recent years, the "traditional hunting" cruel slaughter of dolphins in Taiji has continued.

Agia Kiriaki translates as Saint Sunday. She is one of the last few traditional working Kaiki's in the area.
A Kaiki is simply a Greek working boat, like a fishing or transport boat. She takes her name from the Island of Levkas just to the north of Kefalonia.
Here in the early 1930's archaeologists discovered a small cave on a peninsula of land outside the town of Nidri. In the back of the cave was a religious icon, a painting of a saint. This was Agia Kiriaki or Saint Sunday.
She was built in 1947 in the busy sea port of Patras on the mainland of Greece. Made wholly from wood, mostly Cypress she started her life as a cargo boat running endless trips around the Ionian Islands. She is a gaff rig boat with a powerful diesel engine. Das Kaiki (griechisch καΐκι, „a“ und „i“ getrennt gesprochen) ist der verbreitetste traditionelle Bootstyp in Griechenland.

This little energy manipulator wanted to be part of the October festivities.
We nixed it at first but she insisted she could look like a spellcaster and be scary.
The thing is, she doesn't have a name. The poor dear is part of a series known as "Hito Kaiki" or "Human Regression".
But, no name.
Also, she doesn't look scary depsite her best efforts here.
She just looks very, very cute.

Lefkada is well known for its traditional Greek wooden boats, the καΐκια. It flies the nautical flag for M.
Since ancient times, the islands and coastal areas of Greece had boatyards where wooden ships were built. Wooden ships, also known in Greek as *kaikia* (aka caïque), played an important role in the economy.
These boats had unique technical, typological and cultural features, some of which dated back to the Byzantine-medieval era.
In 2013, the kaikia was added to Greece's National Index of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Sadly, however, these works of art are today being destroyed after the European Union decided in 1983 to subsidize fishermen to scrap their boats. The initial reasoning behind this questionable decision was to tackle overfishing.
Besides the EU's irrational decision which failed to consider the importance of the kaikia tradition for Greece, decades of inactivity on the part of Greek officials led to the destruction of thousands of handmade wooden boats.

David Sylvian & Ryuchi Sakamoto: Heartbeat (Tainai Kaiki II) Return To The Womb
Reinhold Messner

I've been following the order of watching these (thanks to Google). This was supposed to come after "Hitagi End" of Monogatari second season. Nothing else has confused me, besides one thing.
How did Kaiki survive? o.O
As the "enemy" and con-artist, I hated Kaiki of first season. But then they filled in who he really was. Second season.. just wow. They make him out to be someone more real than any of the others.
That's why, when he returned for Kanbaru's story, I cheered that he was back \o/ But did I miss or skip something? How's he alive?
