The text says: Webb's Space Mission
Webb takes off on its journey, guided by twinkling stars that light up the cosmic abyss. Since setting sail, it has captured newly dsicvered ancience galaxies, distant and forming stars, new insights on exoplanets, and more. With these observations, scientists hope to unravel the mysteries of our origins, comprehend our place in the universe, and fathom the intricate tapestry of cosmic evolution.

An addition to our #UnfoldTheUniverse social media campaign by Bhagyashri Deshmukh.
They say: "I made this digital art and wanted to share it with you along with my thoughts and gratitude. I'd always wanted to work with NASA and other space research organisations like ISRO. As I'm always curious and want to know more about the universe and to assist humanity and it's ascension.
Questioning everything around us is the foundation of humanity. Our innate curiosity allows us to grow and live outside the confines of binaries.
What lies beyond the horizon? We know we need a new future, but what does it hold? What exists on the other side? What wisdom awaits beyond binary thinking and views of time and space? What does the cosmos contain beyond life on our planet? How big the universe is and how infinite and just how insignificant we are, compared to it. But i also wonder.. that despite all this infinity.. in the bigger scheme of this vast universe, we might be insignificant, but this vastness has no meaning without us to experience it.
WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!"

A submission to our #JWSTArt social media campaign by Courtney Ngo. She writes:
"This is me eagerly waiting for July 12 to arrive to see the first images taken by the JWST!
Details of the drawing:
I originally made the quilt using square blocks but decided to change it to match the iconic hexagonal panels of the JWST's primary mirror! Some of the blocks also contain space-related drawings: the moon, stars, planets, the Hubble space telescope, and galaxies.
The calendar highlights the July 12, 2022 date to represent the actual event on my (digital) calendar which I marked as soon as the date was announced.
Beyond the space mobile are stars that freely float as the walls of my bedroom make way for the night sky."

A submission to our #JWSTArt social media campaign by Debbie Faas.
She says: "This is a drawing about how the 18 individual mirrors aligned for the very first image sent back to earth. The 18 mirror segments are numbered so I flipped their layout in this drawing and connected them with a line to the 18 correspondingly numbered stars that were captured by each mirror of the telescope. It’s only one star but the mirrors are not aligned yet, so 18 stars are seen in this first photo."

A submission to our #JWSTArt social media campaign by Ryan Javanshir. Ryan says, "I made this using oil pastels, cutting and shaving bits of pastel to achieve the desired effects. I was inspired by images I had seen on Twitter from JWST and had these displayed in the background whilst I did the piece. I also had various videos on in the background showing simulated movements of galaxies which provided a good feel of what I was drawing."

An addition to our #UnfoldTheUniverse social media campaign by I am sending you two pictures, the front and the back of a calligraphy i made. It was inspired by the beauty of the universe revealed by the James Webb Telescope and by a famous Chinese text called 千字文 "Thousand Characters Text". I used a paper that looks just like the panels of James Webb Telescope and it was made by people with mental issues at their workshop.
I entiteled mine as "Thousand Disorders Text". I also wrote a small text in French that was inspired by the calligraphy making:
Des courbes
Des droites
Un hexagone
Une symétrie
Un enogaxeh
Un écart chemine vermillon
Une succession verticale forme une succession horizontale
Dans le chaos on peut voir de multiples logiques
Quand on a essayé 1 2 on en vient naturellement à essayer Ԑ Ⴙ

A submission to our #UnfoldTheUniverse art social media campaign by Ashley Zelenskie. It is called "Exploration" and is 3D printed, gold-plated nylon.
This piece was originally made for the 2017 Art + Science exhibit. (more here: jwst.nasa.gov/content/features/jwstArt/index.html)
Says Ashley:
The purpose of the JWST mission. To look back in time and see how our universe was formed. To raise questions we never thought to ask. To reach into the unknown.
"Astronomy by its very nature drives us toward the unknown...there's something uniquely human about wanting to find out about our surroundings, to explore our world, to discover new things. That's what astronomy is all about." - Amber Straughn
Exploration was created using 3D scans of John C. Mather, astrophysicist, cosmologist and Nobel Prize in Physics laureate and Amber Straughn Astrophysicist; Deputy Project Scientist for JWST Science Communications. The arms are reaching out of the primary mirror of the JWST as though they are reaching through a portal to the ends of the universe. As they push through they are enveloped in information, formulas that have helped unlock the secrets of the universe.
John describes the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker metric which is used to wrap the arms of the piece. This metric is an exact solution of Einstein's field equations of general relativity.
"The equations wrapped around the hands in this sculpture are the "FLRW" cosmological solution to Einstein's field equations of general relativity, paired with the formula that describes a parabolic mirror. One might say we build one (the telescope primary mirror) to test the other (Einstein's equations)."
The third arm is my own; the arm of an artist. The abstract idea of studying what you don't know is hard to grasp. This is a disconnect that art can help fill in. Art asks people every day to think about abstract ideas and opens a doorway for creative thinking. My hope is to apply this open mindedness to science and in this way be better equipped to take in the universe in all its vastness and mystery.
For Webb's launch, Ashley created a virtual world that includes virtual version of this piece of art. See here: www.flickr.com/photos/nasawebbtelescope/51703179399/in/ph...
