a little evergreen, juniper or red cedar many debate over this trees name, juniper berries but smells like cedar.This macro shot was the loser for the toss up on green and black.

I have not been out much this year dealing with medical issues. finally got out for a few on July 16 and got a few image. This is one of my favorite butterflies. the color is amazing on these little gems. About the size of your thumb nail they are hard to find, but well worth the search to me.
My little buddy is fearless. He comes in for some water no matter how close I may be with my camera. The other day one landed on my hat !!

Juniperus excelsa is one of the forest-forming species in the woodlands of the southern slope of the Crimean mountains along the Black sea coast. Their heigths reach several meters while the age can be over 500 years. These junipers are rather damaged by the illegal cuttings and construction activity
If you're Shoshone you call it paĪ³iĢµnappiĢµh. Otherwise, you may call it pogonip or just freezing fog. Whatever your vernacular, it is beautiful if you can stand the chill of being out in it. Weāve had a pretty nice little dose of it over the last couple days around parts of Lassen County. Iāve found that juniperus trees like, say, junipers are well suited to catch a bunch of the frost when it forms. I thought this scene looked pretty neat at the north end of the Willow Creek Valley on this morning as the sun to camera-right battled to cut the fog (and perhaps add a second digit Fahrenheit to the ambient temperature).
end of the month.( this has to be one of the warmest January's on record ) You guys that live on the other side of the pond seem to be getting what we normally should be expecting for this time of the year. ( southern Europe and places subjected to the Gulf Stream seem to be getting hammered )

When a juniper dies, its wood lingers for many decades, gaining character as it erodes. Skeletons of big trees appear as natural works of art; this one caught my eye for its contrasts with the rounded sandstone mounds around it and for its background.

The moon and the Milky Way typically do not make happy photographic partners. But here I managed to capture both in a seconds-long window of opportunity before the moon rose higher and completely washed out the Center of Galaxy. It was a tricky shot, difficult to capture enough light from the stars yet avoid overexposure from the moon. And the light pollution from nearby Flagstaff made it even more challenging. I credit PhotoPills for enabling some solid planning for the photography here.
Sunset Crater is an incredible volcanic landscape, with vast fields of cinders and basalt lava flows that killed all life around for 900 square miles, one thousand years ago. There's ponderosa pine and juniper trees here, but not much life otherwise, and as a result it is stunningly quiet at night.
Nothing, and I mean nothing, made a sound that night.
This national monument is rated a Dark Sky Park. A 3-minute exposure long before moonrise did not bring out any details of the landscape. Only the silhouette of Sunset Crater against the stars provided any hint of the cinder cone's existence.
In near complete darkness, and in complete silence, the mystery of the moon and Milky Way made for a truly majestic experience.

A neighbor friend sold her house and moved into assisted living. She kept a marvelously creative yard and I was sad to see her leave the neighborhood.
I admired this juniper in a pot and she gifted it to me. The surface was covered with some kind of succulent ground cover. It was right up against the trunk and causing a little rot to it. I pulled it back and cleaned up the little tree a bit and let it sit, and thought about it.
Come October I repotted it, it was a chore removing it without breaking the pot, but I managed. It was pretty rootbound. I repotted it in slightly larger terracotta pot, I gave the roots quite a prune as well. Over the winter I played around with it and I'm just waiting now to see if it will favourably respond to the work and spring.
