I took this jousting photo at the Renaissance Faire this year. I used a slow shutter speed and panned the shot. It took a few tries, but I think this one came out pretty good. The Renaissance Faire is always a lot of fun.
I was very impressed with these Wonderfully crafted figures of two Jousting knights, at Hampton Court Palace!

I was very excited to go the the Medieval Festival at Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex. These four gentlemen representing France, Germany and the UK fought ,it out in a jousting session. The horsemanship and stunt fighting was incredible. It turns out they are really Italian all!
These modern jousters showed off their skills during the Utah Renaissance Faire in Mona, Utah in front of a capacity crowd.

Combatants must maintain at least one foot within the perimeter of the saddle and at least one hand in control of the reins at all times; otherwise they will be declared dismounted and their opponent will immediately be declared the winner.
Spears shall only be used to thrust, jab, or parry. An intentionally thrown spear will result in the immediate disqualification of the thrower, and their opponent will immediately be declared the winner.
Betting closes five minutes before the start of each match.

This is my 15th year covering this fun festival filled with color and pageantry and beautiful people. Each year some of the regulars return and sometimes fresh new faces appear to join the eclectic Renaissance Family. Some are vendors or employees, and some customers dress up to fit in with the renaissance festival fun and its 16th century way of life. One big happy family of a few thousand escaping the dull drums of their daily life for a few hours. This year's crop of new faces was lovely. Hope you enjoy the images. I try to capture their joy. Always fun, festive, very colorful and exciting!

After three failed attempts to get to the Carolina Renaissance Festival this year, I finally made it on the last weekend of the season. The weather was perfect so I was able to capture some great photos. This was from the first jousts of the day. Huzzah ! !
Alle vier Jahre wird in meiner Heimat die Landshuter Hochzeit aufgeführt. Hierbei wird im Gegensatz zu diversen Mittelaltermärkten höchster Wert auf historische Korrektheit gelegt. Das Ritterturnier hier ist keine Stuntshow mit modernen Equipment - es ist ein richtiges Ritterturnier. Die Rüstungen wurden nach historischen Vorbild gefertigt und es gibt keine Absprachen. Alles kann passieren. Dies ist meines Wissens das einzige richtige Ritterturnier weltweit!
In my hometown you can see every four years the "Landshuter Hochzeit" (=Landshuter Marriage). Everything must be real, like it was 1475. For exacple the jousting ist not a stuntshow - it's real! The Knights wear real armor, made from a smith like it was made 1475. When the horses start everything can happen, there is no script. It is the only real jousting on the hole World!

Young Living Essential Oils Farm, Mona, Utah, USA. 2018 Fall Festival and Draft Horse Show. Competition for two, four, six and the unusual eight horse hitch classic series using Clydesdale/Shire, Belgian and Percheron breeds. This is a four day event that includes rodeo, jousting, concerts, dancing Friesians, and a western shootout.
These young elephants spent time jousting and play fighting by the Ewaso Nyiro River, Samburu, northern Kenya.
The red colouration of the skin derives from the red earth.
