i don't mind if my pictures are posted on tumblr, just be a lovely person and post credit.
My youngest grandchild's and my stroll began today in a moment of sunshine which changed fast into drizzling rain. We didn't give up too easily though and were rewarded a while later when the sky cleared up a bit.
The first who walked our way was Josh. I liked his bandana and his nordic-like allure.
Tall people make it somewhat hard for me to photograph, but I like the challenge.
Josh didn't mind to squat down a bit which made him immediately more approachable.
Josh hadn't had his coffee yet when I stopped to invite him to participate in my photo project, and yet, without any hesitation he agreed. He was kind, soft spoken and friendly and took a moment of his time to be photographed and interviewed.
Josh is 26y/o and grew up here in Portland.
"I have three brothers and a sister. My parents are both from here as well. I have gone to school for film downtown at the NorthWest Film Center.
I work as a chef at the New American, but will be moving to Hawaii at the end of the month to work at a restaurant opening there."
Josh's hobbies include writing, performing poetry, writing and singing songs, painting, doing film, videography projects and watching old film noir. He loves Billy Wilder films the best.
"My message/ motivation is to try to bring people together from different backgrounds, gender and political views for something that is not rooted in hate. When people walk into a theater to watch a film, they get taken to a different world. Everyone in that theater goes to that different place together, and for the duration of that film, everyone in that theater gets to go somewhere together, no matter their race, age, gender or religion.
To me that is incredibly beautiful and inspires me to try to replicate that as much as possible."
Josh's word of advice would be to see yourself in others.
"See yourself in those who have done great things, because you are great, too. See yourself also in those who are struggling, because you will struggle, too."
"What's your personal struggle/challenge right now, Josh?"
It is a lack of patience. I always feel like I need to be doing more, or that i'm taking too long to reach my goals. This makes it very difficult to be in the present, or find solace in what I have already done."
"Any advice to your younger self?"
" It would be to not search for my own happiness in the approval of others."
Josh's lockers. He uses them as storage in his studio. These were only $99 on eBay! On top of the lockers is Drew's vintage Samsonite luggage set.
