Joseph Joubert was a French moralist and essayist, remembered today largely for his Pensées (Thoughts), which was published posthumously.
From the age of fourteen Joubert attended a religious college in Toulouse, where he later taught until 1776. In 1778 he went to Paris where he met D'Alembert and Diderot, amongst others, and later became a friend of a young writer and diplomat, Chateaubriand.

Joseph Dossenberger d.
Joseph Dossenberger the Younger thoroughly rebuilt an existing church in 1764-65. The stucco is by Johann Michael Hoiß. The frescoes are by Johann Anwander. How did Großkötz come to have such a jewel? It was the summer residence of the provosts of Wettenhausen! For Dossenberger it was a combined building project, for in addition to the church he also remodelled the residence. Only two years later, the residence came to an end and the church became a parish church. Since then, the representative residence has served as the parsonage...
The sun sets over the turbulent waters of St Joseph Lighthouse in Michigan. I was pretty happy to have gone out this evening, as the skies were almost completely clear by me when I left. But I gambled and drove out there hoping that Lake Michigan would drum up some nice clouds for a sunset. I was definitely not disappointed as the skies turned a fiery red after the sun sank below the horizon.

It was interesting that this ship backed out of the harbor. I suspect it was too large to turn around while in the small harbor.

In 1904, Blessed André Bessette, CSC, began the construction of a small chapel on the side of the mountain near Notre Dame College. Soon the growing number of visitors made it too small. Even though it was enlarged, a larger church was needed and in 1917 one was completed - it is called the Crypt, and has a seating capacity of 1,000. In 1924, the construction of the basilica was inaugurated; it was finally completed in 1967. The Oratory's dome is the third-largest of its kind in the world after the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro in the Ivory Coast and Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome, and the church is the largest in Canada.
The basilica is dedicated to Saint Joseph, to whom Brother André credited all his reported miracles. These were mostly related to some kind of healing power, and many pilgrims (handicapped, blind, ill, etc.) poured into his Basilica, including numerous Protestants. On display in the basilica is a wall covered with thousands of crutches from those who came to the basilica and were healed. Pope John Paul II deemed the miracles to be authentic and beatified Brother André in 1982.
A reliquary in the church museum contains Brother André's heart, which he requested as a protection for the basilica. More than 2 million visitors and pilgrims visit the Oratory every year. It is located at 3800 Queen Mary Road, at Côte-des-Neiges (near to Côte-des-Neiges metro station).
[edit] Modern developments
On October 19, 2004, the Oratory held its centennial. All the bells of all the churches on the island of Montreal were supposed to ring at 9:00 a.m., though not all churches participated. At 9:05 a.m., the basilica rang its bell in response and celebration.
In 2005, the Oratory was added to the List of National Historic Sites of Canada on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.[1]

Self unloader Joseph L. block owned by Cleveland Cliffs is well into unloading ore at Cleveland's Bulk Terminal on November 2, 2024. It was built in 1975 and has kept that name for it's whole career. It's somewhat rare for a laker to dock at CBT headed west. They more often back in. The newest addition to Cleveland's skyline is the Sherwin Williams headquarters just to the left of the Terminal Tower. Cleveland's House of Pain now known as Huntington Bank Field sits on the far left. This could become a historic photo if the Brown's owners make good on their plan to move off of the lakefront into the suburbs.

Joseph was on northeast corner of Wabash and Chicago Avenue. "My name's Joseph, like in the Bible", he said. He was very friendly and fun to talk to. "I woke up on top of the dirt, not under it", he said, smiling. "It's a good day--God's light is shining down...and the angels". While we were talking about names, I mentioned my oldest son's name (Joshua) and as I left, he said "God bless you and your son!"

Joseph City, 13 miles east of Holbrook, is the oldest Mormon settlement in Arizona. It was named for Mormon prophet Joseph Smith. The community was established in March 1876 as Allen's Camp. It became St. Joseph in 1878 and was then renamed Joseph City in 1923 to avoid confusion with St. Joseph, Mo.
The unincorporated town of Joseph City has few remaining Route 66 commercial sites and gets little attention from roadtrippers. But it's worth rolling through on old 66 to see this pleasant community.
