They call these things Jolly Chimps. I've always wanted one. Took this shot while walking around Tarrytown, NY in the heat and storms. Our car broke down there last week on the way to Boston and Maine. Luckily they were able to fix it and we arrived in Boston after midnight. It was a miserable and expensive day though!

When digital photography rose and first entered consumer market, many camera companies offered a lot of the fancy features e.g. smile or eye blinking detection, face detection, in-camera editing, pumping up pixel count without considering quality, extreme long focal length etc. To me these are like monkey business.

The core of digital camera is the sensor. You will never improve the camera without improving the sensor. Finally most of the major camera companies are going back on track in developing affordable good quality full frame sensor and put it in a light weight affordable camera body.

The mirrorless camera is a new trend and even now Fujifilm is considering development of its own full frame sensor in its X series camera.

With the advent of affordable and light weight full frame cameras, the next coming trend is the popularity of high quality prime lenses. The old vintage prime lenses such as Leica has been brought to life by micro four-thirds system and Zeiss has announced to make more prime lenses for the major brands. More people will understand and appreciate the beauty of primes when the sensor is capable to capture the high quality offered by these lenses.

No more monkey business in camera industry!

Right now all of the full frame cameras and high quality prime lenses are still too pricey for me and none of them is within my reach. I wish one day I will shoot with a good full frame camera and the full series of primes.

Happy shooting and happy Wednesday!

This is the jolly monkey seen at the flea market in the weekend.

If anyone is having trouble getting a sleepless night then worry no more, from now on your nights shall be sleepless.

But in all seriousness, apolagies if this creeps you out, i've not spoken to a single person who doesn't get freaked out by these monkeys.

I've always wanted one. Being from the 50's/60's from Japan they are quite hard to come by in good condition. Not long ago I found one in great condition, imported from America and then put into storage. Still works and everything, cost me a fortune but the posabilities for photos like this are endless.

I did a few more last night but I think this one works best for identifying the subject. The rest looked great but had a few too many rotations for clarity.

This was shot with 4 rotations lit with my iphone from the left hand side at 1 second bursts. Cropped in photoshop.

More to follow soon.

Enjoy....or not in this case.
