With the recent monsoon surge in Johor Bahru expected to last for possibly a few weeks until possibly the end of March 2023, resulting in heavy rain and flooding in several states in Malaysia, including Johor state, having an umbrella to share with could be really useful to navigate the wet and often slippery streets around these areas.

The land border crossing between Singapore and Malaysia at Woodlands Checkpoints is often known to be one of the busiest border crossings in the world, with long traffic jams and waiting times that can stretch for up to several hours during long weekends or public holidays.

Despite this, many at Johor Bahru (JB) Sentral still welcome the traffic for the economic benefits and prosperity that has been generated over the years.

Johor state and Singapore used to be formerly under the same nation of Malaysia when it was formed in 1963. However this union proved to be short lived, and Singapore eventually was forced out of the union in 1965 as a new, independent country.

Now, the division of the two places are easily represented by the land mass of Johor on the left, and Singapore on the right, all separated by the Straits of Johor in the centre.

this doesn't look like a train, but indeed it is.

With the land border crossing between Singapore and Malaysia at Woodlands Checkpoints being one of the busiest border crossings in the world, it has thus been fascinating to see just how fast the upcoming RTS Link has been progressing since the previous time I took a similar shot from this angle two years ago.

When the RTS Link is eventually expected to be running by the end of 2026, the current KTM Shuttle Tebrau will soon cease service, so diesel hauled locomotives may also become a rare thing of the past to spot in Singapore the near future.

Singapore and Malaysia has often had historically close ties with each other, both culturally and economically.

This is often observed by the sheer volume of traffic at both the Woodlands & Tuas Checkpoints, where traffic can stretch for hours on weekends!

To many Singaporeans, this has become somewhat of a tradition to go on a weekend trip up north to Johor Bahru to escape the city life, even for just a short while.
