Macy's Opening Day Celebration at 1300 Market Street, ex-John Wanamaker flagship

There were too many boxes in the way for me to get in there for a better photo of the doorway. I'll try again next year!

From where I was standing I couldn't quite get it all into one shot, hence the left and right side shots. In 1938 it was converted to apartments, rehabilitated in 1973, and in 1978 gutted by fire, at which time the interior was entirely rebuilt and the Wanamaker Apartment building built behind it.

I was not a kid who ran screaming from Santas. I knew when I was in the presence of the real thing, and nothing could possibly go wrong.

I used to be an organist, but I never played an organ this big!

This is a modern organ called the John Wanamaker Court Organ in downtown Philadelphia. It is the biggest organ in the world.

Count the keyboards. All those buttons on the right are called stops - they all make the organ produce different sounds when they are pulled out. If you want the organ to be very loud, you would "pull out all the stops." That is an expression that means "do your very best with everything you have." That is what I hope you and I are doing today!
