Located here in Quincy, the John Wood Mansion at 12th and State is the former home of the 12th Governor of Illinois, John Wood. The mansion was completed in 1838 after 3 years of construction. It was originally located on the northwest corner of 12th and State. John Wood had it moved across the street in 1864 after his octagonal mansion was completed which was on State between 11th and 12th. The Greek Revival home was cut in half for the move. Historians and architects today proclaim it one of the finest examples of Greek Revival architecture in the entire Midwest. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 17, 1970 and today is home to the Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County.

Remembrance Day approaches. I don't know John Horace Brown or his descendants, but they had his uniform and photo at the museum one year.

There are two well known barns in Jackson Hole - this is the northern barn built by John Moulton in the early 1910s. It is slightly less famous than the southern barn built by Thomas Moulton during the same period....

Monument Valley

I took this hand held shot of the rolling Wicklow hills a few months ago. It turned out a bit blurry so I played around with it to try and make it look like a painting. I like it anyway regardless of the flaws.

The tractor and the pylons give its age away a bit. Im sure even great artists like Constable had days off too just like the rest of us. Even his bad ones are worth millions but yours and mine are priceless!!! Lol! Check your loft!!!

P@t.

The John Moulton Barn is part of John and Bartha Moulton’s homestead.

Many travel from around the world to photograph this historic structure located in Jackson Hole valley, Wyoming, USA.

You wouldn't know by looking at this photo but it was taken just three days after the hottest day ever recorded in England, 40°c but three days later when I took this it was cloudy and back to 19°c for the harvesting of this field in North Lincolnshire. This John Deere 6215R tractor was waiting its turn to ride beside the combine harvester and collect all the oil seed.

John Martin Quartet

John Martin - Tenor & Soprano Sax

Jonjo Grisdale - Piano

Tim Fairhall - Double Bass

Andy Ball - Drums

This gig falls 4 days after the release of John Martin's debut album on the "F-ire" label. www.f-ire.com

The album, entitled "Dawning" reveals a young saxophonist/composer with a warm and engaging voice, mature and emotionally fluent on his instrument. His writing combines joyful African-inspired grooves, dark Mehldau-ish harmony, contemporary odd-time meters, and the folky European sound reminiscent of Keith Jarrett’s early quartet with Jan Garbarek.

‘Dawning’ represents the starting point of a journey full of promise. It has been recorded beautifully at Artesuono studio in Italy, and is characterized by a warm and open sound, and a certain emotional directness. Martin’s uncluttered improvisations and the dynamic structures created by the band respond to a wide range of inspiration, from English jazz and folk and the ECM sound to Wayne Shorter and the downtown New York scene.

“This album should be heard and bought” - Kenny Wheeler

“This is an honest, cohesive and sophisticated release –

a band to listen out for in 2011 and a credit to the F-ire collective” Iain Ballamy

I shoot everyday with a decent camera. The morning after Hurricane Sandy I came across this about a mile from my house. I shot it with my iPhone and sent it to the local newspaper. The AP got word of the image and contacted me about buying it. I sold my first photo to the AP and it was a camera phone shot? Go Figure.

John McGuinness MBE, on a factory Honda during TT 2025. One of the all time greats of the IOM TT course. I have always struggled to get good, focused pictures of him (he really doesn't hang around), but on this occasion I got a few of him on the back wheel further down the road and managed to hold focus until he was almost filling the frame.

John Legend Live at Sunburst Music Festival Kuala Lumpur

This is the main chamber in St Johns Cathedral in Brisbane.

I was unsure which way I prefer to view it and experimented for a while with different settings.

I did like the effect of removing the light levels in the ceiling which when seen with the vertical perspective distortion, gives a feeling of extreme height. It is quite a tall building anyway, but I liked the thought that it disappeared in the sky.

The cathedral is relatively dark internally, and here there are soft muted colours and the altar is highlighted with 3 spotlights (artificially)

The adjacent shot is very colour desaturated, and provides a very sombre mood which is appropriate to the Gothic cathedral.

Astronaut John Young, who walked on the Moon during Apollo 16 and commanded the first space shuttle mission, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at the age of 87 from complications of pneumonia. Young began his impressive career at NASA in 1962, when he was selected from among hundreds of young pilots to join NASA's second astronaut class, known as the "New Nine." Young is the only agency astronaut to go into space as part of the Gemini, Apollo and space shuttle programs, and the first to fly into space six times.

In this image, John Young, astronaut and Navy veteran, salutes the U.S. flag at the Descartes landing site during the first Apollo 16 extravehicular activity (EVA-1). Young, commander of the Apollo 16 lunar landing mission, jumps up from the lunar surface as astronaut and Air Force veteran, Charles M. Duke Jr., lunar module pilot, took this picture.
