FROM CLOUD HOSPITALS TO HUMAN CELL PRINTING: HOW CHINA IS LEADING THE WAY

Chinese entrepreneurs and leaders are racing to develop health care solutions that can better serve the country’s 1.3 billion people—and much of the inspiration for these innovations is home-grown. As China takes leaps forward in digital connectivity, big data analytics, 3D printing, and artificial intelligence, other nations—including some industrial giants—are suddenly finding themselves in the slow lane, held back by budget cuts, red tape, and entrenched systems. Some insights from one health care pioneer on what it will take to stay competitive in the global race to innovate.

One thing we are very good at: creating medical marvels. Not so good at: making them affordable. So how do you squeeze more value out of innovation? One answer is to bring affordability into the ideation and design process from the very beginning. A conversation that probes the least explored part of ingenuity: patient value.
