- His birth in 623 BC.
- His enlightment i.e. attainment of supreme wisdom, in 588 BC.
- His attainment of Nirvana i.e. the complete extinction of his self at the age of 80.

Buddha Jayanti is a special day for both Hindus and Buddhists in Nepal. On this day people celebrate the life of Lord Buddha; his Birth, Enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana (Death).
Abdul Kalam in his book Ignited Minds says that, “Only children will have these innovative ideas... I personally feel that young have the most powerful minds. They can overcome the negativity of the bureaucracy and some self-centered policies of the state government to enrich the people of the country."
Today is Gurupurab or Guru Nanak Jayanti, the most important and sacred festival of the Sikh community and is observed across the world. It is also known as Guru Nanak's Prakash Utsav, that also connotes to the Sikh guru's birth anniversary and this festival is observed over a period of 3 days.
