It's been a Week of Amazing sunsets due to the hurricane season here. If the sky is partly clouds, you'll atleast get nice sunsets but once in 3-4 days, you'll get epic sunset. This week I got 3 epic sunsets and I was not able to capture any decently. I tried moving around different spots on river in downtown but just can't find the right spot for sunset. Frustrated, I thought, surely if the sunsets are so good..the sunrise gotta be pretty good as well. So was determined to go to the beach. I got up late, rushed to the beach (20 mins) drive and got there 5 mins before sunrise and found this. It would have been nice to have got there earlier but I think this is not a bad reward for my speedy ride to the beach :).

Jax Beach Pier - So this is the first Evening Post Storm Beryl. I had promised to run for the skies hoping for some spectacular sunset because of the storm. I would have preferred something like this over the ocean but for it I would have to get up early for sunrise which is a big deal for me. So once again here I'm trying to make the best of the situation. Composition was a challenge but I decided to settle for this view as it allowed me to include all the drama in the sky. I wanted to include the Binocular in my composition for some reason.

So this is where I should have been yesterday.

I got my wide angle lens back, but I wasn't able to use it this morning... one of the elements inside fogged up! How does that even happen? I can wipe fog off of the outside elements, but I can't do a darn thing about the inner elements.

So, I used the 24-105 on this. It got the job done and did it fairly well... but I had other ideas for this shoot initially.

I do like the way the wave crashes against the pilings though... that probably wouldn't have shown up as well with a wider lens.

Ah well, and life goes on.

Actually I was at Jacksonville Pier early AM trying to do some Night Photography and it so happened that while I was doing a long exposure on a tripod a fisherman shined his flashlight my way. Set it up for a cool shot.

I really wasn't sure how to compose this but I knew what I wanted.

I shot it with a mid-focal length to get some compression in the distance, but it was awkward dealing with the pilings on the inside of the pier; on the other hand, there was a lot of empty space above and to the left. So square it was.

I just like the soft colors in this image contrasted against the dark pilings.

All the years I heard people complain about flying in 20+ year old Navy helicopters, I think I'd feel much more comfortable with an airframe around me.
