I know. I promised Monday as "Dog Day." Well this is eight hours early, but I wanted to share more of Mt. Diablo tomrrow before moving on to ... who knows what.
This was Jasper, an Australian Shepherd I think. What I can tell you about Jasper is that he kept looking at me like this. I think he loved me! But his owners wouldn't let him go. I met them on Ginder Gap Trail on Mt. Diablo. As obedient as Jasper was, the people he owned wouldn't let him off the leash. Good humans.
I'll bet if he could use that look, he got everything he wanted. Maybe even a sheep.
Whenever Jasper, my photo assistant, is in the mood to take a photo tour, he take a seat in a shoe :-)
Thanks Leonie for the shoe!
Happy Sunday all!

Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my pictures. Your views, comments, faves and support are greatly appreciated ツ
As I went to take this extended captured while there along the pretty shore of Lake Maligne in Jasper National Park, a breeze kicked in smearing up the reflection a little ... liked the result here.
#Gemstones-Crazy Tuesday
Jasper, an aggregate of microgranular quartz and/or cryptocrystalline chalcedony. Other mineral here is grey colored arsenic! Jasper is usually red, yellow, or brown.
Pyramid Mountain rises above the clouds as the Athabasca River flows on below. Earlier color version in comments.
Pyramid Mountain in Jasper National Park stands at an elevation of 2,763 m (9,064 ft), the highest peak in the vicinity and one of the most photogenic. Aptly named for its shape in 1859 by geologist and naturalist, James Hector, the peak is part of the Victoria Cross Range.
The Athabasca River originates in Jasper National Park, in an unnamed lake at the toe of the Athabasca Glacier within the Columbia Icefield.
Enjoy a wonderful week!
Made my annual trip to Jasper Pulaski wildlife preserve in Indiana to see the flocks of sandhill cranes and it did not disappoint. It's always early this time of year, but I like to go before halloween. I think I'm going to go again late November when the numbers are in the tens of thousands.
There was a gorgeous sunset last night, which made for a really nice backdrop to the cranes flying in.

Looking across Jasper and the Athabasca river winding it's way towards the Victoria Cross and Maligne ranges forming a stout wall to the NE.
The boulder is pointing towards 2 of my favorite places near Jasper: Pyramid and Patricia Lakes. A few shots of them in comments for reference. Much to love near Jasper (Spirit Island, Mt. Robson, Mt. Edith Cavell, Athabasca Falls and on and on).
Have a wonderful Tuesday!

One of the many joys of driving throug the Canadian Rockies in the late evening.
Back on the road again and looking forward to seeing our granddaughter and her parents in a few hours
A very nice scene there midday in Jasper National Park. Just loved this view with the open area, trees, and then the peaks in the clouds with just enough blue sky.
Actually part of the Athabasca river, it fills with runoff then drains again as the runoff recedes. Taken October 13, 2021, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada.
I just returned from a 2 week trip through the Canadian Rockies and Glacier. I have a lot of images to sort through to say the least.

A sunrise shot of Pyramid Peak reflected in Pyramid Lake under clear blue skies.
Pyramid Lake is only a kilometer from yesterdays shot of Patricia Lake. They are 10 minutes from Jasper township.
The lakes are north of Jasper. The fire primarily came from the south. Relieved to report that the Pyramid Lake Lodge not far from here is fine, not harmed by the recent fires. Hopefully also with the forests surrounding them.

Petrified Forest National Park
Arizona
May 2022
The petrified wood in the park was formed 225 million years ago during the Triassic period and is 4 times as hard as granite and very colorful, due to the effect of impurities such as iron, manganese, copper and lithium present in the wood during the fossilizing process.
The two F40s that have safely taken us roughly 4000km from Toronto look pretty mighty against the magnificent mountain backdrop at Jasper. This is the day's second fresh air break. We pulled into town in the last minutes of light, and fortunately I had just enough time to get to the front of the train to grab this photo before blue hour set in.
Throughout the whole journey this was my first chance to actually photograph the head end power from the nose, since all of the other stops did not provide access to the head end of the train due to refueling operations. What should have a been a couple of hours was reduced to 45 minutes unfortunately due to the train being astonishingly late. Normally, the Canadian arrives at Jasper around breakfast time in the winter, but we were running close to 18 hours late because of weather, mechanical problems (bad axle on the Park Car), and CN related issues across the prairies.
Because of the wildfires over the summer, the CN crew base had been moved to Hinton from Jasper, leaving the yard partially empty, but there was still some road power here in the background in the yard. I'm not sure if they were for locals or for outbound trains, or just spare power for road trains to take if needed.

"Jasper is the commercial centre of Jasper National Park, located in the Canadian Rockies within the Athabasca River valley. It is at the junction for Highway 16 (Yellowhead Highway) and Highway 93 (Icefields Parkway).
Established in 1813, Jasper House was first a North West Company, and later Hudson's Bay Company, fur trade outpost on the trade route to what was then called "New Caledonia" (now British Columbia), and Fort Vancouver in Columbia District on the lower Columbia River." Wiki
Natural magnificence and marvels in every direction from here!
Thanks for taking a look. Always appreciated!
Edmonton, CANADÀ 2024
Jasper Avenue is the main street and central arterial road of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Although it has no official street number, it is aligned with 101 Avenue for most of its length. This avenue holds significant historical importance, having been Edmonton's commercial centre since 1871. It runs through the downtown core and features a mix of old heritage buildings (like the Hotel Macdonald) and modern office towers. It serves as a major public transit route (with the LRT running underneath) and a vital hub for retail, dining, entertainment, and business. The avenue has recently been undergoing revitalization projects ('Imagine Jasper Avenue') to enhance the pedestrian experience with wider sidewalks and an improved streetscape.
