Y zapatillas por si hay problemas salir vola'o

Lentes oscuros pa' que no sepan qué está mirando

Y un diente de oro que cuando ríe se ve brillando..."

At Apenheul

In 2018 a new silverback called Bao arrived at Apenheul from the Taipei Zoo in Taiwan. The European western lowland gorilla breeding programme decided that he would succeed gorilla leader Jamo. In 2018 Jamo moved to a different zoo, because he had completed his job of being leader. The gorillas live on the largest gorilla island in the world. They share this outdoor enclosure with the l’Hoest’s monkeys.

Gorilla baby

At the end of February, a gorilla was born in Apenheul for the 50th time. It is an extraordinary event, not just because the monkey park is celebrating its 50th anniversary, but also because this is silverback Bao Bao's first offspring. Mother Gyasi and the newborn are doing well. We can now announce that it is a boy and has been given the name Kiango, which means 'light'. The new arrival is a beacon of light in this time of the pandemic. He brings cheerfulness and a different dynamic to the gorilla group. The birth of Bao Bao's first offspring also signifies a bright future for the conservation of the species.

Past the South end of Chatsworth Siding, Rosso, Jamo and myself tested an electric fence to scale the hill for this, possibly the TSOD?

Special thanks to Jamo (#184749) for organizing and making this possible! :)

Strobists: softbox from models top left, reflector on the right. Two snoots to the hair. A lot of fine adjustment. And it's still not quite there but yet I like it.

DAY 08: Over night halt – KORZOK

On returning to the bungalow, freshen up and rest for a while. There is a knock on the door, must be Jamo with the coffee tray.

According to ESP (Extra Sensory Perception) this evening is going to be fantastic! An occasion that warrants filter coffee (that was served) to be replaced by the tiny cache of superb Costa Rican Tarrazu coffee, which is buried at the bottom of one of the luggage!

The watch face reads only 16:30 hours, but the excitement is overpowering. Put on heavier woolens and head towards the vantage point not far. Another steep climb but view from the top is spectacular. Must remember to thank Ravi on return for suggesting this ideal place for a perfect date!

Gradually dramatic clouds roll in from the western corner of the sky. The lake adopts a deep blue-gray shade; larger part of the mountain range is under the shadow of the clouds, remaining portion in light, a hue of tangy yellow. The grassy lake bank caught in light and shadow interplay.

Did anyone anywhere in the world ever suffer concussion knocked down by clouds, very soon will find out as a dark mass is heading in this direction at tremendous velocity!

I've gotten hosed the last 2 times trying to go for the Ringneck and Western, but today Jamo and I hit the jackpot. Not only did we have great light and intel, but the RWRR sent their own power west to Kennebec with fertilizer loads. Usually it's only BNSF shuttles that go west of Chamberlain, but we got super lucky today with a great chase along the old MILW!

Figured I had to get a shot in Akron before the concrete elevator falls, which is in the plans for the near future. After wrapping up the chase at Westfield, Jamo and I headed north to Watertown for a BN trio.

Found this one having a dig thru the archives ...

most memorable era for me..

this is one of those rare ocassions when a face mask was used:)

Minolta launched the lower cost Hi-Matic series of rangefinders starting in 1962 having auto exposure only. The Hi-Matic F is from 1972, has a cadmium selenide photosensor and a lower cost 38mm lens. It's still got a good feel and is lightweight compared to e.g. the AL-F and the Uniomat.
