About a block south of the Pompidou Center, site of the Musee National d'Art Moderne, (please see previous 2 posts), lies the Place Igor Stravinsky. My first impression was: "What the...?". My second impression was: "This is intriguing and amazing."

The shallow pool has 16 mechanical sculptures by Jean Tinguely and his wife Niki de Saint Phalle. Each sculpture is an homage to a composition by Igor Stravinsky. Jacques Chirac, then mayor of Paris, announced the project in 1981; it was completed in 1983.

Figuring prominently are sculptures representing two of my personal favorite Stravinsky compositions: The Firebird (1910), and Rite of Spring (1913).

The square, with it's graffitti, mural, white ventilation ducts, and the riotous colors/shapes, contrasts sharply with the adjacent Gothic church, St-Merry (c. 1552).

Jacques René Chirac (UK: /ˈʃɪəræk/ SHEER-ak, US: /ʒɑːk ʃɪəˈrɑːk/ ZHAHKsheer-AHK, French: [ʒak ʁəne ʃiʁak]; 29 November 1932 – 26 September 2019) was a French politician who served as President of France from 1995 to 2007. Chirac was previously the Prime Minister of France from 1974 to 1976 and from 1986 to 1988, as well as the Mayor of Paris from 1977 to 1995.

The CX is the first Citroën production car with a front transverse engine. When it was launched, it impressed journalists with its outstanding road-going qualities and comfort. Although criticised at its debut in 1974, the large saloon was a commercial success. The following year, a Prestige luxury version appeared in the catalog. This one is lengthened (of 25 cm) and will see its roof raised two years later. President Giscard d’Estaing complained about the lack of headroom when seated in the back. Indeed, the CX quickly became the emblematic car of the governing institutions and was adopted by Jacques Chirac who was paraded on the Champs Elysées on the evening of his presidential election in 1995. When the CX is restyled in 1985, the Prestige also adopts the supercharger and officially becomes the most expensive Citroën available.

The example we present is an exceptional CX 25 Prestige Turbo 2 with driver separation. This car was ordered by the City of Paris from Labbé in 1988. At that time, Jacques Chirac left his position as Prime Minister and returned to his post as Mayor of Paris. Very sensitive to the comfort of this car, we can assume that he was himself the one to request this car. This CX was put into circulation on December 5th 1988 and will be kept by the City of Paris until 1995 when Jacques Chirac becomes President of the Republic. It was therefore used for all his travels within the framework of his municipal functions. The second owner of this car in 1995, a scientist, had himself travelled in this car accompanied by Jacques Chirac and Prime Minister Michel Rocard. The CX Prestige with driver separation are extremely rare. Based on a longer chassis, this example made by the Labbé company has a black livery associated with a beige leather interior. The upholstery and paintwork have recently been completely restored. Under the hood, we find the 2.5 l turbo of 168 hp which has been revised. This exceptional car with its history and its unusual configuration has all the arguments to seduce collectors in search of the rare pearl.

Since 19/12/2012 this car can be already concidered a classic as the production of Citroëns C6 model stopped at that date after only 23,384 units built.

Citroën C6

The Citroën C6 was an executive car that was produced by the French car maker Citroën from 2005 to 2012.

Inspired by the C6 Lignage prototype which was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in the spring of 1999, but differs from the concept car's styling in minor details.

At the time, it was hoped that the C6 would go into production by the end of 2001 as the replacement for the aging XM, which was first produced in 1989.

The XM ceased production in June 2000, and the first C6 rolled off the production line almost five years later.

The C6 is aimed as a stylish alternative to executive cars like the BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6, and it has been described as "spaceship that rides on air", "charmingly idiosyncratic" and "refreshingly different".

Citroën hopes that the C6's selling points will be its innovative technology, which includes a head-up display, a lane departure warning system, xenon directional headlamps (also available on the Citroën C4 and Citroën C5), Hydractive 3+ suspension with electronically controlled springing and damping, and a rear spoiler which automatically adjusts to speed and braking.

Former French president Jacques Chirac has chosen the Citroën C6 as his official car, and has been using a pre-series car before the model was introduced. The French ambassador to the UK also has a Citroën C6 as his official car, with the registration 'FRA 1'.

Citroën officially ceased production of the C6 on December 19, 2012, after only 23,384 units built.

English:

The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile 'Triumphal Arch of the Star' is one of the most famous monuments in Paris, France, standing at the western end of the Champs-Élysées at the centre of Place Charles de Gaulle, formerly named Place de l'Étoile—the étoile or "star" of the juncture formed by its twelve radiating avenues. The location of the arc and the plaza is shared between three arrondissements, 16th (south and west), 17th (north), and 8th (east). The Arc de Triomphe honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Beneath its vault lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.

The central cohesive element of the Axe historique (historic axis, a sequence of monuments and grand thoroughfares on a route running from the courtyard of the Louvre to the Grande Arche de la Défense), the Arc de Triomphe was designed by Jean Chalgrin in 1806; its iconographic programme pits heroically nude French youths against bearded Germanic warriors in chain mail. It set the tone for public monuments with triumphant patriotic messages. Inspired by the Arch of Titus in Rome, Italy, the Arc de Triomphe has an overall height of 50 metres (164 ft), width of 45 m (148 ft) and depth of 22 m (72 ft), while its large vault is 29.19 m (95.8 ft) high and 14.62 m (48.0 ft) wide. The smaller transverse vaults are 18.68 m (61.3 ft) high and 8.44 m (27.7 ft) wide. Three weeks after the Paris victory parade in 1919 (marking the end of hostilities in World War I), Charles Godefroy flew his Nieuport biplane under the arch's primary vault, with the event captured on newsreel.

Paris's Arc de Triomphe was the tallest triumphal arch until the completion of the Monumento a la Revolución in Mexico City in 1938, which is 67 metres (220 ft) high. The Arch of Triumph in Pyongyang, completed in 1982, is modelled on the Arc de Triomphe and is slightly taller at 60 m (197 ft). La Grande Arche in La Défense near Paris is 110 metres high. Although it is not named an Arc de Triomphe, it has been designed on the same model and in the perspective of the Arc de Triomphe. It qualifies as the world's tallest arch.
