That’s right guys, I’m back with more Fantastic Four! I know how you all can’t get enough of it, so I couldn’t help but churn out another one for you guys! :)

This one wasn't particularly based off of anything other than the vague Latveria motif. I just wanted to do something a little more villain-centric. Doom was the obvious choice! :P

If you want to see how this project came together (like exclusive sketches, exclusive bonus photos, BTS builds and lighting, editing tutorials, etc), be sure to jump over to my Patreon this week for all kinds of great stuff! (link in the bio!) :)

I'm sure Jack missed you, because I know I certainly will....

...I mean what else was I supposed to do with Mr Miracle, just sit here and not build some of The New Gods?! Do you think I’m crazy or something? He’s literally perfection.

So after sorting through old builds I found my little Jack Kirby minifig I built right after Stan Lee's passing, and was inspired to make some more influential faces from the comic industry across the decades!

So I made eleven more to go alone with him and Stan! I wanted to include even few more, like Scott Snyder, C.C. Beck, George Perez, Julie Schwartz, Kevin Smith, Bill Finger, Siegel and Shuster (...just to name a few) but I had to stop at some point before I had a photo that was wider than I am tall :P

So yeah, I don't really think this is all that impressive of a photo, so Patreon has this image (plus one more) publicly available to all that want to see it there! (maybe I'll post that one later too, but who knows!)

How could I build the Fantastic Four without also building a few of their pals and enemies?! So here's eight more figures for you all to chew on and enjoy!

Oh, and here's a list of the custom parts I used so I don't have to answer redundant questions in the comments all afternoon: Doom’s Gun (Brickarms/EclipsGrafx), Silver Surfer Fig (by BigKidBrix), and Namor’s lil feet wings (BrickWarriors). Everything else is Official Lego!

Also Super-Skrull was basically the exact same figure that HMD BrickCustoms designed so yeah (I don’t wanna get sued by the Lego Fan Community if I didn’t say that) :P

Also also I built a lot of these figs from memory and apparently Grey Gargoyle has a cape and I completely forgot sooooo.... whoops!

...Too late to fix it now!

That’s right! I finally gave Thor the comic cover recreation treatment! Of course how could I not try and take on Jack Kirby himself?! Sure I’m still a wuss and don’t dare take on some of his more memorable Thor covers, but still, I did it! :P

It features custom figs and fig parts by Crystal Minifigs, and a fantastic spinning Mjölnir by Dragon Brick!

Man oh man oh man have I been really excited to share these guys with you! :P

So a few months back I was combing the internet for MuddyRiverMinifigs infamous Fantastic Four figures (Like you do) when the stars aligned and the heavens called out to me as I had finally found a seller of them and OH MY GOODNESS they are everything I had ever hoped for (I was seriously super dumb not to buy them when they were first released) Anyway, magically around the same time I went to my first local comic convention in ten years and also managed to find the ever illusive Ben Grimm Bigfig!

So here I am thinking to myself that it was clearly a sign from beyond this mortal realm… (probably the negative zone or somewhere) That I needed to pursue these guys as a legit project unto themselves.

So here we finally are. Months of shopping around for the perfect parts, hours of tinkering and tampering with the plastic &prints themselves, and a whole lot of patience later :)

Yay! I finally managed to make the absolute raddest looking inhabitant from New Genesis' Super-Town, the mighty Big Bear!

Only tagging people who I think might recognize this character. Yes, I'm aware that the reversed S14 Tiger Woman CMF torso is probably a more accurate torso, but I didn't like how it had very little interesting texture. And I left an easter egg for my next fig in my Zero Year Batman shot. :)

So you all know that normally, I’ll re-read the issue that I’m covering and write up a joke-y narrative making fun of how stupid and fun it all is right?

Well hey, if you wanna know about this book, just go watch the first twenty minutes of the 2008 Iron Man movie because it’s literally just that almost beat for beat, with a few less derived and unbacked scientific terms tied to hokey tech :P

But really though, there’s not much to make fun of with this old issue (and trust me, I tried). It’s solid all the way through. There’s even an overarching story featuring a vague 60s Marvel archetype villain and Tony redeeming himself from his weapon-dealing past.

It’s actually a pretty forward thinking story for 1960s America. You could argue it’s a bit hippy-swaying but really, it’s a message that can still be applied to today and I really liked that about the book.

If you're interested you should just go read it for yourself. It's pretty great :)

I enjoyed painting this so much I decided to refine it some more. I ditched the basic red background I added yesterday for a stone wall. Then I refined the details of our green friend and beefed up the color on him. Now, it's done...i think.

“Why am I not like the others, Prime One? These questions! These feelings! Why am I more like an eternal of New Genesis than a bug?”

______________________________

I’m no expert on many comics published by anyone outside of the big two, and certainly not even those from DC’s new Young Animal imprint. From my outsider perspective, Wildstorm, Mother Panic, Cave Carson, and Shade the Changing Girl seem to be excellent titles in their own rights - just not relevant enough to the mainstream DCU to sufficiently warrant my interest.

But in early May came a new contender to my attention - Bug: The Adventures of Forager. The titular character is a creation of none other than the outrageously imaginative Jack Kirby himself. While I still have a LOT of Kirby to catch up on, all you really need to know is that Bug is a humanoid bug of New Genesis’ sub-surface who feels an inexplicable calling to something greater than himself. It’s a tremendously interesting premise for a story, and I’m looking forward to seeing where this 6-issue miniseries takes this humble hero.

Two more to go.

"I HUNGER !"

('Galactus' by ToyBiz / 1997)

New York City streets, parks and plazas year round serve as showcases for art, celebrations and commemorations of subject matter that varies as much as the diverse population of the city itself. A commemorative and artistic display that stirred quite a bit of controversy was the 13-foot bronze statue of the Marvel superhero Captain America which was dedicated at Prospect Park in Brooklyn by the carousel at Children’s Corner on August 10, 2016. The Green activist in Brooklyn protested saying that the area of the park where the statue was on display for 2 weeks was a designated ‘commercial free’ zone and the celebratory nature of the statue was in fact a commercial promotion. I didn’t agree, we’re talking 2 weeks here, but probably have a bias as you will see.

So 2016 amongst other things, mark the 75th anniversary of the Captain America which is why the 13-foot bronze statue was commissioned. Right on 42nd Street, on 330 West 42nd Street to be specific, in 1939 Martin Goodman founded Timely Publication as he jumped head first in the emerging and increasingly popular medium of comic book, publishing it first comic book, Marvel Comics with the human torch in October of that same year. Goodman hired what would be the creative team behind the star spangled hero, the creative team of Joe Simon and comic book notable Jack Kirby and in March 1941 published Captain America #1 which almost sold a million copies (funny how in today’s society any moron can get more views than that on social media in a day). Timely Comics would take the name Marvel Comics by 1944, continuing to operate out of New York City, though after the war, superhero publications lost the public interest. In 1961 after years of the superhero genre really being almost non-existent, Stan Lee, who actually was Goodman’s wife’s cousin Stan Lieber had been hired by Martin Goodman back in 1939, a Marvel Comics writer and editor came up with a concept of a comic book geared for an adult audience instead of juvenile audience with the Fantastic Four. Different from other comic book publishers, Marvel established publications that looked at ongoing issues, adult relationships and characterizations, the precursor of the modern graphic novel that appealed to wider audience. Stan Lee (his pen name if you haven’t figured that out yet) revived Captain America in Avengers #4 in 1964 with the storyline that he had been in suspended animation after WWII which he had been literally and figuratively. Cap was popular once again, and when I was lad in the mid 1970’s, I got my first copy of a Captain America comic book at a small store on Bergenline Avenue, I’ve always been an avid reader, but this was different, left with a cliff hanger for Cap and the Falcon, I couldn’t wait to get the next issue, I was hooked. Every month I was saving my quarters (actually the first issue was $.20 believe it or not), get Captain America, the Avengers, Ironman, Thor, the X-Men. I did so until my freshman year in college when money really got tight and priorities shifted so my days of being a comic book geek were over. Most of my comics are still at my folks, some probably worth some money, if the mice haven’t turned them into bedding. Captain America always was my favorite though so you can image when Marvel Entertainment started the Captain America-Avengers movies, wow I was delighted. Life is funny, my youngest daughter has become a Captain America fan and was surprised to find out her daddy was a comic book geek who also loved Cap. The modern Captain America is just as principled and stubborn as the character I loved in the 1970’s and 1980’s, though there have been changes to keep up with the times. During my comic book days, Captain America, Steve Rogers lived in the lower eastside of Manhattan as did Sam Wilson the Falcon. In the cinematic version of movie, the Steve Rogers character played by actor Chris Evans is quoted many times and is actually inscribed on the base of this statue, ‘I’m just a kid from Brooklyn’. Thus why when Marvel Entertainment, which is part of the Disney family since 2009, decided to have a bronze statue created for the 75 anniversary celebration, they chose a local Brooklyn artist to create it. Red Hook native David Cortes designed the 13 foot one ton Captain America statue in his 13st Studio in Gowanus. David currently continues to live in Brooklyn and was commissioned by Marvel Entertainment and Comicave Studios to make this celebratory commemorative statue. I went to the dedication at Prospect Park, and it was fun and interesting. The audience, a real mix, youngsters with Captain America masks and shields but many, many adults my age and older also donning the fictional hero’s garb. I actually met and spoke to older gentleman who had read the Captain America comic back in the 1940’s, really amazed at how popular the character still was.

I really like the way the metallic on the torso stands out when the rest of the torso is very dark.

I'm having too much fun laying transparencies over Polaroid film! Here's the filter used for this and here's how this is done. I can't believe this actually works!

-After watching season three of Daredevil my favorite character was Benjamin Pointdexter and I had to make him along with a few others from the season

-I’m very lazy and didn’t feel like searching for an image of him wearing this outfit so I just copied and pasted Yale Jeong design onto my figure and I think I did a decent job at least

-I hope you enjoy more coming soon
