I am not fond of these wasps at all! Nearly every year I "find" a new ground nest of them. By find, I mean, I get stung by them. Generally multiple times. But this year tops that. They got into a window unit AC, ruined it so it no longer will run and have generally been having a grand time in the now closed off bedroom. Happily I haven't had a need for this bedroom so today, hopefully it's cold enough the old AC is going away and a new one put in. I suspect the queen is still there. These yellow jackets are hungry and they fly all over the small evergreen bushes in my yard looking for sap. :(

A cold and windy day, insects are very slow and sluggish, and taking refuge clinging to flowers and leaves. Easy to get within photographic reach of this yellow jacket hornet (Dolichovespula arenaria), clinging to white alyssum....

It has been cold and rainy for the past couple of days. Peanut needed to try on her jacket to make sure it still fit.
