Jack is an adventurer. He travels the world on a hot air balloon looking for adventures. He is very courageous. If there is an adventure that involves searching through the depths of a murky, deep and dangerous sea, Jack dives right in, without a nose plug. When visiting distant lands, Jack takes to the culture straight away and does not turn up his nose at the local cuisine. He once drank beetle tea, and when he was done he made a satisfying "Mmmmm" noise. If there is a puddle, Jack jumps in it. If there is a cave, Jack explores it for bears and bats. If there is an enormous mountain, Jack climbs up it and then does somersaults all the way down it. On every adventure that Jack embarks on, he is sure to pick up a trinket or doodad, to bring back home to his best friend Seamus.
Ask me who my favourite super-hero is and I'll tell you 'Superman!' in a heart beat.
Ask me who the coolest super-hero is and again the answer is easy and quick; Jack Knight, Starman.
While the Man of Steel always has pole position with me, there is no denying just how damn cool Jack Knight was. He had no secret ID, no real super-powers to speak of (he was good at kung-fu, that was it) no costume either. He collected stuff other people thought was junk, he used to be a punk, he'd often get tattoos and he'd let his hair grow or sometimes sport a goatee and he's the only hero I know who dissed Batman because he thought he didn't have a favourite Woody Allen film.
Jack Knight ladies and gents, he's damn cool.

Bandleader Jack Hylton (1892-1965)
Think champagne – and you’ll be champagne. Think in terms of beer and a couple of quid a week and you’ll end up with nothing. - Jack Hylton, the greatest English band leader and impresario of the British dance band era.
from the Jack Hylton website: A parson in a Lancashire chapel was interrogating his Sunday school on its general biblical knowledge, and, in particular, on Judas Iscariot: ‘Can you tell me’, said he, ‘a famous biblical character whose initials were ‘J.I.’?’ A dear little urchin readily responded. ‘Yes’, he said, brightly, ‘Jack ‘ylton!’
Jack Hylton was born on July 2nd, 1892 at 75 Boundary Street in the village of Great Lever, on the outskirts of Bolton, Lancashire. He was christened John Greenhalgh Hilton by his cotton yarn twister father, George Hilton, originally from Stalybridge and his mother, Mary (formerly Mary Greenhalgh), a schoolteacher.
Jack’s Cousin Fred recalls the event: I remember Jack Hilton being born quite well... His mother was knitting a pair of socks to earn a shilling the day that he was born.

His father was an amateur singer at the local Labour Club and Hylton learned piano to accompany him on the stage. Hylton later sang to the customers when his father bought a pub in nearby Little Lever, becoming known as the "Singing Mill-Boy". He also performed as a relief pianist for various bands. His early career involved moving to London as a pianist in the 400 club and playing with the Stroud Haxton Band. During the First World War, he moved to be a musical director of the band of the 20th Hussars and the Director of the Army Entertainment Division.
After World War I Hylton played with the Queen's Dance Orchestra, wrote arrangements of popular songs and recorded them under the label 'Directed by Jack Hylton'. He then formed his own band, recording the new style of jazz-derived American dance music under the Jack Hylton name from 1923. Hylton became a respected band leader with a busy schedule. He became a director and major shareholder of the new Decca record label. His band developed into an orchestra and toured America and Europe into the 1940s, when it disbanded due to World War II. Hylton adopted Oh Listen To The Band as his signature tune.
At this point in his career he became an impresario discovering new stars and managing radio, film and theatre productions from Ballets to Circuses. His productions dominated the London theatres with such productions as The Merry Widow, Kiss Me, Kate and Kismet.
Contracted as Advisor of Light Entertainment to Associated-Rediffusion (A-R), winners of the London weekday franchise in the recently established ITV network, he founded Jack Hylton Television Productions Ltd in that same month to produce a range of light entertainment programming exclusively for that company.
At the same time he was still producing stage shows, as well as taking a leading role in organising various Royal Command Performances, until his final stage production Camelot in 1965. He helped to develop the careers of many famous performers such as Shirley Bassey, Maurice Chevalier, Morecambe and Wise, Tony Hancock, Arthur Askey, the Crazy Gang, George Formby and Liberace. In 1965 a televised tribute to Hylton, The Stars Shine for Jack, was held in London on Sunday 30 May at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane with many artists including Arthur Askey, The Crazy Gang, Marlene Dietrich, Dickie Henderson, and Shirley Bassey.
Hylton was married twice; firstly in 1922 to bandleader Ennis Parkes (they separated in 1929) and secondly, in Geneva in 1963, to Australian model and beauty queen Beverley Prowse (1932–2000). On 26 January 1965, complaining of chest and stomach pains, Hylton was admitted to the London Clinic. He died there three days later, from a heart attack, aged 72.
Hylton's spending habits and generosity left his estate with £242,288 gross, despite the many millions that he earned during his career. With duty (taxes) of £83,484, this left £151,160 to be distributed among his heirs, with the first £30,000 reserved for his widow, Beverley. As Hylton said to his son during his latter years, "I won't leave you much, but we'll have a good laugh spending it while I'm here!"
He is buried in the churchyard of St Catherine at Gosfield, Essex. His wife Beverley is buried beside him.

My son's game of Jacks, dof with the ball behind. Not sure if this is worldwide (I think it is) but its a game using speed of hand collecting the thrown Jacks.

Jack Holt, originally Charles John Holt Jr. (1888–1951), was an American motion-picture actor in both silent and sound movies, particularly Westerns.
Jack Holt was born Charles John Holt Jr. in 1888. From 1914, Holt started as a stuntman and bit actor in crime films and serials at Universal, first in the serials by Francis Ford such as The Master Key (1914) and The Broken Coin (1915). The first major supporting part Holt had was as Conde in The Dumb Girl of Portici (Phillips Smalley. 1916), starring Anna Pavlova, while he had a lead in the Marie Walcamp serial Liberty (Jacques Jaccard, Henry MacRae, 1916), the first Western serial. After more supporting parts he had the male lead in the Jesse Lasky production Sacrifice (Frank Reicher, 1917), distributed by Paramount. Even more important was his male lead in the Mary Pickford WWI vehicle, The Little American (Cecil B. DeMille, 1917), in which both French and Germans are not presented very sympathetically. Holt plays a half-German American who has to fight for Germany in France, while his American girlfriend (Pickford), reluctantly, helps the French. Eventually, they manage to escape back to the US.
Thanks to this and other male leads or important supporting parts at Lasky/Paramount, Jack Holt rose to stardom in the late 1910s and remained so all through the 1920s in films such as The Squaw Man (Cecil B. DeMille, 1918), The Life Line (Maurice Tourneur, 1919), Midsummer Madness (William DeMille, 1921), The Call of the North (Joseph Henabery, 1921), George Fitzmaurice’s 1923 remake of The Cheat with Pola Negri, etc. In the mid-1920s Holt did a whole string of Western features for Paramount, often with Lois Wilson as co-actress, such as North of 36 (1924). As Wikipedia writes, in the late 1920s "with his dapper moustache, prominent jaw, and quick-with-his-fists manner personified rugged masculinity." In 1928 Holt moved over to Columbia Pictures, where he became the most reliable leading man and scored personal successes in three Frank Capra action dramas: Submarine (1928), which was released in both a silent and a sound version - of which the silent version was found at the Amsterdam Filmmuseum EYE, Flight (1929) and Dirigible (1931).
Yet, in the early 1930s, Jack Holt's no-nonsense characterizations were gradually eclipsed by younger, tough-talking actors like James Cagney and Chester Morris, although he was still entrusted with tough-guy-with-a-heart-of-gold leads. Two mid-1930s features, Whirlpool, and The Defense Rests, starred Holt opposite up-and-coming ingenue, Jean Arthur. Exhibitors had come to associate Jack Holt with rough-and-tumble action, and so Holt continued to work in low-budget crime dramas, mostly for Columbia, through 1940. The series came to an end when he argued with studio chief Harry Cohn, who thought the actor was so arrogant that he assigned him the leading role in a lowbrow serial. Holt turned in a professional performance in the serial but then walked out on both Cohn and Columbia and began freelancing at other studios, frequently appearing in outdoor and Western fare. He would become an enduring member of the cowboy fraternity through Trail of Robin Hood (1950), a Roy Rogers Western with guest appearances by Holt, Allan Lane, Tom Keene, Tom Tyler, Kermit Maynard, and Rex Allen. Jack Holt's children Tim and Jennifer also had careers as actors.

Haven't carved one of these in several years. He's supposed to be one part cute, one party scary. Sorta vaguely reminiscent of a werewolf or black cat I guess.

Notice the lovely thermostat behind Jack and Sally, also the large black bug placed on the photo to hide the equally lovely BRIGHT RED fire alarm!! Every single photo of the cake will have these beautiful additions....so sad :(

The Jack Dempsey cichlid is named after former heavyweight boxing champion Jack Dempsey, since it is a strong and energetic fish. It is a sturdy fish that is easy to care for, but due to its aggressive temperament it is not recommended for novice aquarists. In Spanish speaking regions, this fish is called Mojarra castarrica or Riquiraqui. In Poland, it is known as Pielegnica niebieskoluska, Germans call it Achtbindenbuntbarsch, and finish speaking aquarists know it as Helmikirjoahven. The scientific name for the Jack Dempsey is Archocentrus octofasciatum. The species forms a part of the genus Cichlasoma in the Cichlidae family.
