The Jacaranda trees are in bloom here in Mexico City - although the locals pronounce the name with a decidedly Spanish inflection. The trees remind me of my youth in South Africa where Pretoria had streets lined with Jacaranda trees.
Hot and dry spring day, but it is a season for Jacaranda storm in Brisbane.
Despite heat and haze, I did enjoy the walk, and I hope you like my shots, please tell me what is your favorite.

The leaves are starting to turn yellow. In October they will be replaced by lovely purple blossoms. The branches of this tree cover almost all of my small back yard.
I planted a tree! Last summer while driving around the suburbs of Melbourne, I noticed all of a sudden purple trees appearing everywhere. No leaves, just the most wildly vivid purple clusters of bell-shaped flowers. The flower show continued all through the month of december, then the flowers fell carpeting the ground below with purple. I was in love. I expressed this so audibly that for christmas, I was gifted with a jacaranda tree! I couldnt wait to get it in the ground, but must first read about how to dig a hole.
The tree finally went in 2 weekends ago. It took me 3 hours from start to finish. Pretty uneventful compared to the first time a hole was dug for it, that time we struck a water pipe
The Jacarandas are beautiful here in Brisbane at the moment. Last week I went for a walk at the University of Queensland to take some photos.

PSA: So many people say "Oh look how beautiful the Jacaranda are" but I want to tell you how big a pain in the ass these trees are. The flowers fall all over the place. They stick to your car. The leaves fall with little twigs that have to be raked up. And they drop this black dust that makes a mess. But, they are beautiful, when they're blooming.
