As of 9:02pm, it's official- I can no longer claim the 30's anymore... How can this be possible? I mean, I still feel like I'm 25!! :)
::::This shot is of a friend's kitty that NEVER comes out when company is visiting- so the quality here is terrible, but it was all about the capture on this one! She's way too beautiful to be hiding!::::
I do have mixed emotions about this day. I loved my job - loved the work of helping people better their lives and the lives of those around them. Loved that I got to work with so many wonderful people all over this province, and my colleagues at SLC. I will miss the the friends I've made over the years in recruitment. It's not good bye though - we can still be friends... That said I am happy to have this new-found freedom! I am happy to have the good fortune of having worked for a great institution, in a union, and have a great pension to start drawing on that afforded me the luxury of retiring now. #Happy #Bestfridayever #Iamretired #itsofficial #Freedom #noregrets

I can't help myself.. I am daft as Miss A would say.... I think Haggis said Cheeky... or something about a grape.. either way, I have a certain type of humor that I can't always contain and this little literalism is a testament to that. I think this is the shot idea that sold Sara on working with us oddly enough.
If you missed it btw... more daftness and cheekiness here:
and this was posted recently too.. from the Alix shoot at Milk Haus.
Sorry I've been AWOL guys. Apparently that tiredness I've been feeling while trudging over ice and through snow has been due to a pretty, pretty, pretty bad case of anemia. I had to have a blood transfusion in the hospital, among other unsavory tests. Still on the mend...they say this thing takes months to fix, and I am not known for patience!
i'm having a hard time surrendering to the cold. if there were an intermediate season here, like, oh, i don't know...autumn, for instance? it wouldn't be so hard. but there's no in-between here, it's just summer going about its business and then suddenly it's freezing. and gray. there will henceforward be no sun, no sky, no color for ten months. and i'm stuck here.
Text messages came flying in this morning... I awoke to find that my name and upcoming FREE Public Photoshoot was on the Wealthy Theatre marquee. I quess it's official... this queens name is in lights now!
I believe in Grand Rapids and I believe in local art. I can't stop smiling over this today!

The bride (my niece), the groom (newest nephew), their prime attendants and the officiant of their wedding, all smiles.
A small amount of paper work had to be completed to make the wedding ceremony of the previous day, well and truly complete. A few signatures and more smiles and hugs, and everyone went back to the fun of the gathering.
A Sunday, day after the wedding, picnic with family and friends, at a delightful park in the middle of a beautiful neighborhood. Good food, good conversation, lots of playing, by grownup as well as the wee ones among us. Fiddle, pipe, guitars, banjo and various percussive instruments made for a pleasant background to all the lively talk and fun.
Note two things: My newest nephew husband of my youngest niece has a kilt on, and is wearing a gift from his mother-in-law, my sister-in-law. It is emblazoned with the very true saying "Living With An Irishwoman Builds Character!" My niece is full of Irish, her mother being a member in good standing of McNamara's Band. Those Irish eyes can twinkle and flash with equal. These two are well suited for one another, so say all.
Those smiles say it all. A very, very happy day.
I signed the final papers today. I think.
This photo was very dark, as I remember it. I fooled around with it one day when I was feeling very blue. I had just gotten my hair cut. Short. So I took a picture. Of my hair. This was taken in my bathroom.
Sometimes things happen that we have no control over. I am still reeling from the stupid audit. My friends and colleagues warned me to not represent myself to the IRS, but I wouldn't listen, convinced I had nothing to hide. All this time I thought if you are honest and aren't trying to do anything wrong, then everything will be all right. Boy, was I naive!!!
I'm hoping that armed with this I can now pose as a member of the paparazzi or at least as a smudger on my local rag!
It was spooky to realize how much our Walls of Stuff affected the acoustic levels in the living room. Our voices echoed off the empty walls.
When we moved in, we had just come from a tiny, tiny studio in the East Village. We felt like the new apartment was huge. Now that everything's gone, I realize just how small it is, and what a struggle it is for two people to build a life in 350 square feet. We won't be doing that again any time soon.

This year, the fruit trees in the front-yard orchard must be looking especially fruited, because each of us has noticed an unusual number of passersby stopping to look at and comment on them. The (not-pictured) Reliance peach tree is the most spectacular, with a riot of perfectly red-orange peaches, but the Rome Beauty is also a show-stopper. We only have one red apple going right now, and it's still a baby tree, so I think most people don't notice the green and russet apples against the leaves until they get up to the Rome Beauty. It's right at the foot of the driveway and it's completely covered in gorgeous little fruits (with three or so red ones peppered in). Just the other day, one woman walked part way up the driveway to get a closer look. Boomer suggested offering her a ripe peach, but my theory is, that person can go plant their own tree and wait a few years for it to start producing! (I'm not really that mean a neighbor -- two years ago I gave a guy walking by two of our apples but he seemed a little taken aback and I never saw him again. He probably thought I'd stuck razor blades in them or something.)

Yet another view of the kitchen I haven't seen in 14 years. :)
As we were hauling out the last of our stuff yesterday, our landlord showed the apartment to about a dozen different people. Every time he said "see, the kitchen is nice and big," I wanted to say "noooo! Don't be fooled! The kitchen is big from a square footage standpoint, but it has very little usable counter space and the stove is on the other side of the room from the sink! If you don't have an island (or wish to spend $5,000 on one), you're sunk! Run far, run fast!" But I didn't. We like the landlord, and I didn't want to make his job harder. Still, I had to bite my lip, and hard, every time. :)
He rented it before we were gone, of course. New tenant (brand new college graduate from Maryland) moves in as soon as landlord finishes painting and cleaning, and will be paying $200/month more than we did. Welcome to New York.
one way to erase bad ideas,
well i won't see you once you arrive
one way to escape bad ideas,
well i won't cry to you,
not that you would mind
