As its name suggests, the impressive rock formation on the Great Ocean Road resembled an archway rising 25 metres from the sea.
Back in June 2009, the arch of Island Archway collapsed and all that remains now are the two rocks that previously supported the arch.
The two remaining rock pillars of the gorge have been named Tom and Eva after the two survivors of the shipwreck back in the 19th century.

When arriving at Caldey Island at any time other than around high water, boats cannot access the jetty...so, passengers are obliged to transfer offshore onto this military style landing craft...humorously nicknamed "H.M.S.Hopeful"...it is quite safe, so I was told...and is an added little adventure to the day trip to the island.

The climate varies over short distances, but the evocative fog follows you wherever you go in the Faroe Islands and lingers along the mountain slopes where the free-ranging sheep graze. The colors of the magical landscape change quickly when the sun peeks out for a short while. Puffins can be seen on grassy steep slopes and along rocky coastlines in Faroe Islands.
I composed this photograph while walking around this lake in the lands surrounding Island Lake Lodge, near Fernie, British Columbia, Canada.
Basalt Grimsey Island in the Arctic Circle. At present Grímsey has 90 inhabitants.
In Iceland, the arctic tern is called "kria"...the cry of the kria scares everyone before they attack to protect their young.
The camera in one hand and the index finger of the other hand raised high above my head, I succeeded in taking this picture!

Southern California Islands off the coast of Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Definitely has a prehistoric feel. Although the islands are just off the coast of California, they are not part of California, rather they were created many years ago from volcanos, much like the Galapagos.

Cruit (pronounced "Critch") Island is one of the main islands of the Rosses, off the coast of West Donegal near Kincasslagh, is a small island measuring roughly 3 miles by one mile. It is approached by a bridge so access to it is easy. Beside the road bridge there is a smaller pedestrian bridge. There are no shops nor pubs on Cruit.
The island is very beautiful and is dotted with sandy beaches all around it's coastline. In fact there are about twelve beaches on this tiny island. There is a small pier and a couple of slipways. During low tide it is possible to walk to the mainland at Bellcruit. You can book a boat to take you to nearby Owey Island from Cruit if you so wish.
Between Cruit and Bellcruit there is another small island, Coffin Island.

Getting near the north end of the south bridge as it nears Pass Island. Strawberry Island in the center. Ben Ure Island now in view on the right beyond the tip of Whidbey Island.
Ben Ure Island has quite a disreputable and sad history, which I will share tomorrow with the better view from the north channel between Fidalgo and Pass Islands.
Enjoy a wonderful Wednesday!

A misty morning down the lake yesterday. The mist was starting to break up and disperse with the warmth of the morning sun. Wall Holm Island with Patterdale and Arnison Crag just visible through the mist.
