Took a short trip to Ise and came across this lovely chozuya. If you've looked through my photos of Japan you know I love these :)
The chozuya are water-filled basins used by worshipers for washing the left hand, right hand, mouth and finally the handle of the water ladle to purify themselves before approaching the main Shinto shrine.

I was lucky - or unlucky - enough to be in Ise when the G7 summit was taking place. The town itself was almost empty - including the shrine.
