Don’t know much of anything about this groovy soul-funk-instrumental trio from Houston. Well, other than this amazingly chill lp (on loan from my buddy Brian) goes crazy good with coffee and makes for some damn fine background vibes while working. This one’s definitely on my wish list.

File Under Water : Released April 9th, 1984. Happy 37th to this dear old vinyl friend. According to Michael Stipe, the original and true title is File Under Water (as indicated on the spine of this first U S pressing along with the official title of Reckoning.) Also, and totally on brand for these incredibly obscure and talented cats, instead the sides of the record being labeled as "side one" and "side two", the sides were designated as "L" and "R", respectively.

Tomorrow Never Knows - the trippiest song ever - even today, at 55 years old, it still sounds like it’s from the future. According to author Andy Babiuk, "Tomorrow Never Knows" marked the first time that a vocal was recorded using a microphone wired into the input of a Leslie speaker.
And man oh man, the bass sounds, both Paul + Ringo on Revolver are especially badass with headphones.

Wiki: The photo shoot for the album cover took place in November 1966 on Primrose Hill in North London. The photographer was Gered Mankowitz, who also shot the band photos for the cover of Out of Our Heads. The shoot took place at 5:30 in the morning following an all night recording session at Olympic Studios. Using a home-made camera filter constructed of black card, glass and Vaseline, Mankowitz created the effect of the Stones dissolving into their surroundings. The goal of the shoot was, in Mankowitz's words, "to capture the ethereal, druggy feel of the time; that feeling at the end of the night when dawn was breaking and they'd been up all night making music, stoned." Brian Jones' disheveled and gaunt appearance on the cover disturbed many of his fans, and critic David Dalton wrote that he looked "like a doomed albino raccoon."

“…we’d always seen the lyrics as sort of ephemeral. We jotted them down just so that we could compose and record the song. At that time, our focus seemed to be all about the music, which is something you cannot physically see. We just threw away the lyric sheets afterwards, and it's funny to think about everything that ended up in the wastebaskets of Abbey Road Studios.
Linda, though, had a background as a photographer. Producing beautiful prints was her art and craft, and she was steeped in a world of physical artefacts. She started picking up the handwritten lyrics we left in the studio, and she'd paste them into a scrap-
book for me. She saw them as memories and parts of my history.
I'm told that the archive now has over a million items, which just goes to show how many objects can pass in and out of a life.”
And thank you Linda McCartney for her insightful preservation of all the priceless ephemeral minutia that comprises the soul of this book.

According to Wiki:
The album's cover was a painting by American sci-fi artist Frank Kelly Freas. Taylor had an issue of Astounding Science Fiction (October 1953) whose cover art depicted a giant intelligent robot holding the dead body of a man. The caption read: "Please... fix it, Daddy?" to illustrate the story "The Gulf Between" by Tom Godwin.
The painting inspired the band to contact Freas, who agreed to alter the painting for their album cover, by replacing the single dead man with the four "dead" band members (with Mercury and May dead in the robot’s hand with Freddie bleeding from his chest and blood on the robot’s middle finger of its opposite hand. and with Taylor and Deacon falling to the ground, and Taylor only visible on the back cover).
The gatefold has the robot extending its hand to snatch up the petrified fleeing audience in the shattered auditorium where the corpses were removed. Freas said he was a classical music fan and did not know Queen, and only listened to the band after doing the cover "because I thought I might just hate them, and it would ruin my ideas", but eventually liked their music.

This is my fist pressing of one of my top 3 Ramones albums (1: Ramones and 3: Rocket To Russia), All’s Quiet On The Eastern Front and Come On Now are totally two of Dee Dee’s best.
So, according to The Wiki, Deborah Harry, Kate Pierson + Cindy Wilson are credited with backing vocals on Plesant Dreams though none of them appear in the liner notes. I just wanna know if this is true and if so, which song(s), I can’t seem to find or figure it out. Dang, I wish Jon Wurster was here, he knows these things…

I remember buying this album for 25¢ at a garage sale around the summer before 8th grade, circa 1976. One of my earliest, full-on “Seduced by packaging” “What the hell kind of music is this?” “What an awesome cover!” “I gotta have this” vinyl purchase.
Like most Zappa/Mothers of Invention albums, they tend to grow on you and get better with time. I immediately loved “My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama”, the title and closing track, “Weasels Ripped My Flesh” sounds like an early, lost Sonic Youth track that would segue nicely into Goo’s “Titanium Expose”. The rest of the lp is mostly improvisational /free jazz and is (in general as a genre) still growing on me.
I do still totally love the cover art.
The two images that inspired the Neon Park cover art are yhe September 1956 cover of Man's Life magazine and a 1953 Schick electric shaver ad.

This came out 47 years ago this month, November 8th, 1974.
This is my second favorite Queen lp. The first 45 I ever bought (at the BX on the Air Force Academy with my paper route money) was Queen’s Killer Queen. The flipside, Flick Of The Wrist, freaked me out! It was totally one the hardest rocking songs I’d ever heard back in 1974, I still love it.
It wasn’t until 1975 that I bought my first full Queen album, actually an 8-Track, Night At The Opera. Still my favorite and it only got better when I got my first pair of headphones the same year…
