Fort Bragg children gather at the North Post Exchange June 6 to become padawans and learn the ways of the force. The children were instructed on using a lightsaber to defend against the Dark Side at this Star Wars training like a Jedi event. In the end each participant received a certificate proclaiming their accomplishments as a Jedi padawan.

The Jedi training event was hosted by the Post Exchange for the Fort Bragg community. It took place at the North and South Post Exchange. Exchange employees dressed as Jedi masters to train the children on the ways of the force.

Shawnita Gilyard, a parent volunteer, plants flowers to beautify the Prager Child Development Center, June 12. Despite the hot weather, Child, Youth and School Services staff and parent volunteers worked together to beautify the center’s front yard as well as children play area. The volunteers dug out hard clay to plant new bushes and flowers, lay mulch, and trim and water trees. Parents can volunteer in a variety of CYSS activities to earn points toward childcare fee discounts.

The Culinary Arts Food Team Food Show, Jan. 12, at the Culinary Arts Training Center, provided a look at the Fort Bragg culinary team before they participate in the Annual Culinary Arts Competition at Fort Lee, Virginia, in March. The competition tests Soldiers from the food service background on their culinary skills, and their ability to teach food preparation for everyday use in dining facilities. The event also showcased local and national food vendors who provide services to Fort Bragg.

Performers from the 2015 Soldier Show came to Thorton Library on July 10 in support of the Read to Rhythm summer reading program for Fort Bragg youth. The youth were treated to singing and dancing as the performers read children books in style.
