Ipoh is most famous for this White Coffee. No kidding, but this is seriously is fantastic. Don't go for the 3-in-1s, eh. Get the real one!
Now, the coffee beans aren't white, but the way that they are roasted, makes them less dark than the regular coffee, whiter - thus 'white'
This is another reason why, real coffee drinkers in Ipoh don't head off for Starbucks or Coffee Bean for a fix :P
Day trip to Ipoh to shoot historical buildings. Walking around the old part of Ipoh city, I saw a roadsign that looked so new and rather shiny. Too bad the nearby buildings look like fire hazards about to wipe out the whole street.
Conservation entails more than repair. Alteration of one sort or another, in addition to straightforward repair, must sometimes be inflicted on buildings if they are to continue to be useful and wanted. (PROCEEDINGS OF THE 2nd. Sounds too pie-in-the-sky to me. When I looked at the buildings like above, I could just imagine the process of assess (and I mean from the ground up; termites to structure to wiring to environmental/climate) and it's alarmingly easy for me to see a more pragmatic and efficient picture of gutting the whole block and rebuilding new units. Perhaps what can be done is to preserve the design of the buildings ie all new development need to use the architecture style of the original lots.
Or maybe I just have a view that's too simplistic to be considered by the superbrains that are tank-thinking these sorts of things?
