Ipoh railway station is an iconic building at Ipoh, Malaysia. Part of the building had been converted to a hotel. But it seems the hotel was now closed. The plaza in front of the station was also being redeveloped when we visited the place.

The Ipoh railway station were designed and constructed by Arthur Benison Hubback, a British architectural assistant to the Director of Public Works. Having served in India, Hubback utilised his knowledge of Anglo-Asian architecture in the region on the station's design. The "Neo-Moorish/Mughal/Indo-Saracenic/Neo-Saracenic" style was not uncommon at the time.

Ipoh is named after a local tree known as "pokok Ipoh" (Ipoh tree) that can be found abundantly around Ipoh some time ago. Its tree sap is poisonous and therefore is used by the "orang asli" (native) on their blow darts as weapon. Sorry tree-huggers, this one can't be hugged!
