Known for their distinctive red fur, orangutans are the largest arboreal mammal, spending most of their time in trees. Long, powerful arms and grasping hands and feet aloof them to move through the branches. These great apes share 96.4% of our genes and are highly intelligent creatures. A major decision each day while beaching it on Playa La Ropa is "where should we go for lunch today?"
One standby is El Mangalar at the south end of La Ropa situated on the shore of the estuary crocodile sanctuary.
The estuary is home to a large colony of iguana. Iguana also have lunch at El Mangalar. Approximately 1 PM, restaurant staff throw food to the group and a feeding frenzy ensues.
The group are milling about waiting for lunch call.
