At the city library's main branch, opposite to the National Library, there is a section devoted to books with local interest or origin. On top of that collection were these two lists: one list of Scotland's most widely known poets (20th century only), and one list of Scottish authors (not limited to the 20th century). For a country of about 5 million, the bulk of whom concentrate in the metropolitan areas of Glasgow and Edinburgh, this literary production is impressive, thanks to a love of printing, binding, reading and writing, not to mention storytelling.

When some books become out of date or redundant and are marked for cull, they can have a second life as a lump of raw material for artists who carved them and glue them into sculptures of fiber and ink. This one is on display at Edinburg city library, main branch near the entryway.
Not every intersection is marked by monument, but it seems there are an abundance of faces being remembered in bronze or stone.
