The IPTV team covering the Sheep Shearing contest was really aggressive in getting the action, yet considerate to let other photographers get shot. I had to wait for this cameraman to move into my shot to capture him and the action in same frame.
One of the young contestants at The Iowa State Fair in the Hog\Pig contest. That porker is probably 3 times his weigh and contrary to cartoons these puppies can get mean spirited and attack!

Iowa Public Television has brought Iowa State Fair highlights statewide for 48 years and will once again broadcast extensive coverage of the Iowa State Fair. This year’s coverage begins with a live broadcast of the 2018 Iowa State Fair Parade on Wednesday, August 8 at 6:15 p.m. It continues August 13-18 with Fair 2018. Airing Monday-Thursday and Saturday at 9 p.m., and Friday at 9:30 p.m., these hour-long programs are among the network’s most-watched of the year. The 2018 Iowa State Fair Parade and Fair 2018 will also be live streamed on Facebook and Iptv.org. Bill Riley will return as host of this year’s coverage, which is full of feature contest results, unique stories, food, animals, music and more. IPTV will also broadcast coverage of the finals of the State Fair Talent Championship on Sunday, August 19, at 8 p.m.

Visitors to Iowa Public Television’s Iowa State Fair booth in the Varied Industries Building will find a new, interactive exhibit this year with activities, fun and information for everyone.
Each day of the Fair, IPTV KIDS Clubhouse host Dan Wardell will greet visitors to the IPTV exhibit from noon until 1 p.m. The Cat in the Hat costume character will be available for photos, hugs and high fives on weekdays from 1 to 8 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fans of IPTV’s PBS KIDS programming will find a several popular characters in cutout form—Clifford the Big Red Dog, Peg + Cat, Arthur, Sid the Science Kid, Chris Kratt, Daniel Tiger and Curious George—available for pictures weekdays from 9 a.m. until noon.
Between 4 and 6 p.m. daily, hosts from IPTV’s local programs—Dan Wardell, Dean Borg, Charity Nebbe, Mike Pearson, Scott Siepker, Kellie Kramer, Bill Riley, Don Peschke and Paul Yeager—will be available to meet viewers and sign autographs. Each day will feature a different personality.
Every day of the Fair, fans of Masterpiece Classic: Downton Abbey and Doctor Who can stop by IPTV’s exhibit to take pictures in front of Highclere Castle and the TARDIS.
This year’s booth will also feature 60 inch television sets with live feeds of all three of IPTV’s channels, iPads with various activities such as PBS KIDS apps, temporary tattoos for kids, daily drawings, coloring sheets, highlights programming schedules, information about upcoming Friends Travel opportunities and membership information.

Iowa Public Television has brought Iowa State Fair highlights statewide for 49 years and will once again broadcast extensive coverage on-air and online. This year’s programming begins August 7 with a live broadcast of the 2019 Iowa State Fair Parade, continues August 12-18 with Fair 2019 and the State Fair Talent Championship 2019.
The 2019 Iowa State Fair Parade will be broadcast statewide and livestreamed on Facebook and Iptv.org on Wednesday, August 7 at 6:15 p.m. Iowa's largest parade features high school marching bands, floats, animals, vehicles and more as the procession makes its way through downtown Des Moines.
Fair 2019 nightly highlights air Monday, August 12 through Saturday, August 17 at 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Featuring contest results, unique stories, food, animals, music and more, these hour-long programs are among the network’s most-watched of the year. Fair 2019 will also be livestreamed on Facebook and Iptv.org. Host Bill Riley will join viewers on Facebook, responding to comments and questions in the livestream chats. Episodes will be rebroadcast back-to-back on Sunday, August 18 beginning at 2 p.m.
Following the marathon, coverage of the finals of the State Fair Talent Championship 2019 will air Sunday, August 18 at 8 p.m. The annual competition showcases some of the amazing talents of Iowa's young people.
This year, IPTV will also broadcast Shining Stars Talent Show, sponsored by Friends of Iowa Public Television, a new talent competition organized by the Bill Riley Talent Show for people up to age 30 with special needs.

Kids spending time at the Library at River Woods Elementary will have new resources available to help promote the connections between public media and early literacy and math skills, thanks to a new Library Corner placed at the school library by Iowa Public Television.
The Library Corner creates a bright, fun-filled learning environment with age-appropriate materials for use by children, families and librarians. PBS KIDS DVDs, Martha Speaks Read Aloud books and resources, a colorful banner featuring PBS KIDS characters, a Peg + Cat standing character, a colorful rug and more, all help to create an inviting space for children. Online resources include PBS KIDS Lab, a website with more than 140 games and hands-on activities that help to build early math and literacy skills.
“We’re pleased to expand these Library Corners to another location in Iowa,” said Terry Rinehart, Director of Educational Services at Iowa Public Television. “With this Library Corner, families can spend time together reading books, engaging in hands-on activities, and playing online games that support early reading skills like recognizing letters and sounds, and early math skills such as counting and measurement.”
The IPTV Library Corners are part of Iowa Public Television’s Ready for School initiative which works with Iowa communities to strengthen the math and literacy skills of children ages 2-8. Learn more at Iptv.org.
