My lunch hour today consisted of watching the England v. France game and following the live blog from Engadget who were posting about the Apple keynote at the WWDC. New features in iOS 6 and the new MacBook Pro coming out. iOS6 doesn't come out until the fall, most likely with the new iPhone!

Found on the web, now it's my iPhone desktop on iOS6

Trying out the new iOS6 panorama function

Apple's iOS6 and iPhone 5 has the ability to:

1.) Create a HDR (High Dynamic Range) image in camera automatically;

2.) Display a Rule of Thirds grid;

3.) Create a Panoramic image;

4.) Set the built-in LED flash to a.) automatic, b.) on, or c.) off, and;

5.) Select the user-facing camera (used in FaceTime), to make a self portrait.

The IoS6 allows me to do these amazing panoramas on my iPhone4S.

On the whole an improvement over Photosynth and easier to use too.

I've been experimenting with Vine, the brand new iPhone app owned by Twitter that lets you make looping 6-second video clips to easily share on Twitter and/or Vine. A Vine is a bit like a video Tweet. And a bit like real-time editing of very short videos -- touch and release the screen to shoot as many short segments as you can fit into 6 seconds, and the app will stitch them together. The looping also makes Vines a bit like those trendy animated gifs. Whole new video art form? Or just the latest faddish shiny object? Time will tell.

Trouble is, all I can get it to do is save to my Camera Roll as a short (nonlooping) video. Can't upload to Vine or Twitter to show as as loop. I'm working on an iPhone 4 running iOS6. Anybody else have a similar problem? Is there something on Vine's maybe not quite ready for prime time interface that I didn't set properly? Or -- perish the thought -- does it not support the iPhone 4? Please let me know if you hear anything.

It's really fun to mess with the panoramic feature in the new OS. Yes, it's been around for a while with a host of apps, but none have worked quite this well.

Doctored with some color grading, but what a shot!!
