Built in 1907, this Classical Revival-style building was constructed to serve as the offices and switchboard of the Montana Independent Telephone Company, which remained in the building until it moved to a larger facility due to growing demand in the 1910s. The building was sold to the Butte Water Company in 1918, and today, remains the home of the Butte Water Utility Department. The building features a red brick exterior, stone trim, arched bays at the first floor of the front facade, a two-story front portico at the second and third floors of the front facade with ionic columns and pilasters, a cornice with dentils, a front pediment, one-over-one windows, and a second-story balcony with a wrought iron railing. The building is a contributing structure in the Butte-Anaconda Historic District, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1961, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
