The Hearing Loop (the "blue ear").

I was in Minneapolis to attend the annual Hearing Loss Association (hearingloss.org) conference--3 days of lectures and workshops on science, advocacy, and new technology about hearing loss, which affects one-third of adults over the age of 65.

The "blue ear", at the Mill City Museum, informs visitors that the best assistive program out there--a hearing loop--is available in the narrated main exhibit.

I don't like the fact that the sign is obscured by other notices and that it is not placed at the site of the assistance. This is at the entry ticket desk, prompting one to ask about the system.

Still, they are trying to comply with the latest revisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act which mandates that public facilities of a certain size and shape shall make some form of hearing assistance available. If you are hard-of-hearing, inquire what kind of hearing assistance may be available.

Look I did a 3D thing! I have no idea how to texture or light anything yet, so this is all I got.

This is actually a very old idea from back when I was doing a lot of work dealing with disabilities, specifically invisible disability (around the time I did my thesis project). So I guess it could be considered part of that larger series.

The fetish wear is attention grabbing, sure, but also (I hope) suggests being restricted and vulnerable while carrying connotations of pain and emotional duress. The plague doctor mask is intended to allude to the medical aspect, again returning to the theme of disability.

Sexy symbolism!

I used a base model that I posed and exported from Design Doll as a starting point, but I hope it's obvious how big of a departure the final product is from its origins.

There's no upper seam on the boots as it's supposed to be a smooth gradient transition between boot and skin - similar to the lying figure in Silent Hill.

Oh pain, you are so isolating. A constant companion, always there, bringing a loneliness into my life. No one can see you, and no one but I can feel you. A barrier between myself and the real world. Invisible, you’re invisible, not even my lens can capture your burdening grasp. Still, an observant few can witness your weight within my eyes, the way they've dulled the past seven years.

Grace is the Green Rainbow Candidate for governor of Massachusetts. Currently, in a 4 way race, polls show Grace with 1% of registered voters likly to vote for her. This is actually a huge percentage for a "third party" candidate.

This was taken at the Awards Ceremony to recognize learders who have worked to provide quality, affordable healthcare to all Massachusetts health care and home care consumers. NONE of the other candidates for governer attended.

chronic pain patients say loved ones doubt their pain; hard to understand unless you live it

I gotta ask them about their innovative Employee Incentive Program which allows their workers to take photographs and surf the internet while operating heavy duty equipment.

When Eddie's on the job hobby was reported to Work Safe BC - they were a little surprised that an employer would allow an employee to ignore WorkSafeBC requirements to maintain "reasonable care and attention" so as to "not compromise the safety of himself and others."

I guess if the crane falls over - Worksafe BC will be talking to his bosses about the need for internet surfing and harassment and discrimination directed towards the disabled while on the job.

We're having a lot of fun with this - turning lemons into lemonade.

Ceremony was well attended, with the notable exception of three out of the four candidates for governor.

Martina is running for Lieutenant governor, as the Green Rainbow candidate. The election will be November 7th. She is on the "ticket" with Grace Ross. Actually, in Mass, there is no "ticket" and each office is elected seperately. I have not seen any published polls for lieutenant governor.
