Just came back from helping to set up a Art Show for my wife in Bradford, PA. The show is open until February 25th.
It's been a while but there she is...my 7th stranger. When choosing my strangers I follow my instinct/intuition so as soon as I noticed Banu and her beautiful head scarf I thought 'she is my stranger'. So I asked if I could take a photo of her and told her about the project. Banu comes from Turkey and her name means 'princess'. We talked shortly about a big collection of scarfs she has; she wears them for a religious reasons and they are suppose to go along with your mood and outfit. Banu said she perhaps owns too many of them but I guess it's like with shoes and handbags- no woman has ever too many pairs of shoes or handbags. On that day it was also an International Women's day so I couldn't imagine better model for the project.

Intuition Summer Festival 2009. Het was weer een topfeest. Hemelse trance onder een strak blauwe hemel. Jammer dat het geluid in de buitenarea niet echt top was. Binnen was het net een dampende sauna 's avonds. Dat bleek wel want alle lenzen besloegen, waardoor het focussen binnen lastig was. Al met al toch nog een aardig setje, dat de sfeer van de dag goed weergeeft. Beleef die topdag en jullie party-momenten nu nog één keer opniew, door de slideshow te draaien. Thx. again Paul voor de leuke foto's! En Menno en Alda, respect! Jullie zijn er weer ingeslaagd om een topfeest neer te zetten. Pachtige line-up met de beste trance van het moment! Klasse! En last but not least, thx. to all nice partypeople and dj's for the nice photo-opportunities. Het was weer fun om jullie allemaal ontmoet te hebben :) Vooral de mini-after in de camper van Anja was erg gezellig :) Leuk om nog even door te gaan tot 03.00 uur op de parkeerplaats. Thx. Very seldom do I take pictures of myself, but when I have an urge to I like to experiment and do something simple, fun and meaningful. I was in the mood to create an image that depicts the strong bond between me and my intuition.
(I like to experiment with my photography. As of now, I am in the process of defining my style and honing my skills.)

My logic and my intuition are ALWAYS fighting. Or... well... when one is happy, the other isn't...
I was brought up to be a very logical person. Anything and everything was always met with the question "Why?" Because of this, I ask it a lot too. And so logic dictated a lot of my life. Up until about this time last year. Logic was taking me places I didn't want to go. Forcing me into ideals that somehow, I took to be truths. For long periods, Intuition would just take off. Disappear. I wasn't listening to her so she'd take a vacation. Every couple of years I'd get flashes of where I should have been or things to knock me off the path I had me on, onto the more proper path for this lifetime. This time last year, was the last time my intuition had the strength to make me jump from where I was to where I needed to be. It was a rough couple of months. But it was good for me. I'm stronger and happier and more productive now than I have ever been. I am happy to say that that's Intuition lounging around, knowing things are going all right, while Logic is rocking herself, going crazy that the world is going to implode. But I'm much more at peace with Intuition HERE and content. I still use Logic to make sure Intuition doesn't go overboard, but for the most part, Intuition is in charge now :-)

David Herbert, der seine Karriere als Videokünstler begann, bevor er zur Skulptur kam, ist ein Künstler mit außergewöhnlicher handwerklicher Intuition und Begabung im Umgang mit Materialien, der im Grunde alles aus allem machen kann, und das sehr überzeugend. Er entwirft ausgefallene, dem Anschein nach gebrechliche und labile Versionen von ikonischen historischen Objekten, Architekturen und Figuren (viele von ihnen erkennbar amerikanisch) sowie exzentrische skulpturale Versionen von berühmten Filmrequisiten. Herberts riesige Skulptur Beautiful Superman (2007) aus Holz, Styropor, Stoff und Plexiglas stellt einen Superstar der Popkultur in äußerster Bedrängnis dar. Dieser Superman ist ein Skelett, absurd, demütig, und gänzlich ohne Kraft, wie er da nur ein paar Zentimeter über dem Boden hängt. Referenzen gibt es im Überfluss: Jesus am Kreuz, an allein stehenden Bäumen baumelnde, gehenkte Männer (wie aus unzähligen Hollywood-Western bekannt) oder seltsam gekleidete Clowns mit traurigen Gesichtern in Erwartung von Missgeschick und Züchtigung. Herberts Version vom sterblichen und ausgemergelten Superman an der Schwelle zwischen Leben und Tod, in schlaffem Cape und knabenhaften Shorts, passt perfekt zu einem Amerika, das an seine Grenzen gekommen ist, eingeschränkt, voller Angst und schwindendem Vertrauen.
In Herberts Werk werden so mächtige und nachhaltige amerikanische Symbole wie das Empire State Building oder der Mississippi River-Dampfer als verwundbar bloßgestellt und der Katastrophe überantwortet. Seine Version des Empire State Building, aufwändig und akkurat nachgebaut, scheint beim näheren Hinsehen zersetzt und besudelt zu sein – wie ein einst eleganter Anzug zu Dreivierteln von Motten zerfressen oder ein verkohltes Relikt von einem Gebäude nach einem schrecklichen Feuer. Herberts Boot (die „Mark Twain“, entweder ein Oldtimer aus dem 19. Jahrhundert oder die Disneyland-Nachbildung eines solchen aus dem 20. Jahrhundert) kippt unheilvoll zur Seite, als wolle es im Fluss untergehen. Herberts Darstellungen drohender Desaster sind sowohl von großer Komik als auch visuell umwerfend, und zeichnen ihn damit als einen der interessantesten Künstler der jüngeren Generation aus. Die Skulptur Mickey (2009) verbindet auf wunderbare Weise lebenslustige Ausgelassenheit und verzweifelte Besorgnis. Mit spindeldürren Armen und Beinen, bulligen und sperrigen Füßen, überdimensionalen erhobenen Händen, die scheinbar vergeblich versuchen, einen großen Schaden abzuwehren, ist Micky ebenso wie Herberts Superman ein Ikone der Popkultur, aktualisiert für eine turbulente und bange neue Zeit.

この度、ギャラリー枝香庵 Flatにて オランダを拠点とした
The Act of Painting "絵画と行為"(TAOP) の日本での2回目となる展覧会
"The Act Of Painting INTUITION (Works on paper)" を開催させていただく運びとなりました。
TAOPは、抽象絵画の意味を探求しながら、世界を巡り活動する国際的なアーティスト集団です。
今回のテーマは "直感"と"紙の作品"
みなさまとご一緒に抽象絵画について考える機会になりましたら幸いです。

The Act Of Painting- 現代絵画の可能性を追求するわたしたちの活動にとっ て "直感"は とても重要なものだ。わたしたちは無意識を可視化することに関 心を持っている。絵画を制作する過程で、無意識から生み出される”直感”は、思 考の遥か前からはじまっている。身体意識の延長として筆を用い、絵を描く者は 絵画の中で自己の存在を再確認する。美術家は、自ら創り出す空間の一部となる と同時にそれを観察し、自身の行為について考え、評価している。よって、生み 出される作品はつくり手の個人的な意識に限りなく結びついている。作品には表 現者それぞれの感性により、身体性や構築性が強く現れてくる。
今回発表する紙作品には 無意識を反映した抽象的な概念が 挿入、適応、具体化されている。紙に描いた作品は、美術家の個人的な記録、記念碑的な作品のた めの日記や習作として鑑賞することもできる。それらの作品は 直感的思考そのものであり、変化しながら追求される掴みどころのないイメージでもある。更な る実験の余地があり、例えば油彩画と比較すると柔軟性を帯びている。この柔ら かさ故に、作品には”直感"が反映されている。
美術家集団 "The Act of Painting" による ”直感” (紙作品)の展覧会は 銀座・ギャラリー枝香庵をはじめ、パークホテル東京 コリドーギャラリー34、 宝塚市立文化芸術センター・キューブホール、モエレ沼公園(調整中)へと巡回し ながら、抽象芸術家のための国際的な地位を確立することを目的としている。わ たしたちは常に、絵画に対する新しい接し方を追い求めている。日本各地の展覧 会では、現地のキュレーター、美術家などと交流をしながら、西洋の概念と 東 洋の視点との融合を試みる。その融合は絵画における”直感”の意味を探求する 豊かな土壌を築く 更なる発展の鍵となるだろう。

We are pleased to announce the exhibition "The Act of Painting “Intuition” (Works on Paper)" at Gallery Echo-Ann (Flat) Ginza Tokyo. It is the second traveling exhibition in Japan by the artist collective, "The Act Of Painting" (TAOP) based in the Netherlands.
TAOP is an international artist collective that travels around the world in search of the meaning of abstract paintings. Their theme for the traveling exhibition in Japan this year is "intuition" reflected on works on paper.
We hope this will be an opportunity for you to feel/think about abstract paintings.

The Act of Painting, Intuition (works on paper)
Intuition covers a great deal of what The Act of Painting collective's exhibitions and projects are about. Selected artists are concerned with making visible the unconscious. In the process of painting, the act itself is often hundredths of a second ahead of the thought. With the brush as an extension of the body's awareness, practitioners create a painterly environment in which their own presence is essential. They are part of the space they are creating and are simultaneously observing, appraising and considering their actions. Thus the works they create are closely related to their personal consciousness. Depending on existential differences the works may have a gestural appearance or a more constructed figure.
In these works on paper the abstract notion of the unconscious is being inserted into the image, adapted, materialized. The works on paper can be seen as personal notes of the artists, journals, studies for large-scaled monumental works. They are thoughts, volatile, searching, non-fixed images. There is room for experiment, the works are less loaded than an oil painting for instance. The lightness provides the brain an opportunity to manifest itself in a more intuitive way.
In this series of exhibitions, starting in Tokyo at Gallery Echo-Ann and continuing at Park Hotel Tokyo, and Takarazuka Arts Center the artist's collective The Act of Painting establishes itself as an international platform for abstract artists. Furthermore, the collective explores new ways of approaching painting. By inviting Japanese artists to participate in the shows, The Act of Painting is merging the eastern vision with the European notion of intuitive painting. The fusion can prove to be a fertile ground for further development in defining intuition.

Intuition Summer Festival 2009. Het was weer een topfeest. Hemelse trance onder een strak blauwe hemel. Jammer dat het geluid in de buitenarea niet echt top was. Binnen was het net een dampende sauna 's avonds. Dat bleek wel want alle lenzen besloegen, waardoor het focussen binnen lastig was. Al met al toch nog een aardig setje, dat de sfeer van de dag goed weergeeft. Beleef die topdag en jullie party-momenten nu nog één keer opniew, door de slideshow te draaien. Thx. again Paul voor de leuke foto's! En Menno en Alda, respect! Jullie zijn er weer ingeslaagd om een topfeest neer te zetten. Pachtige line-up met de beste trance van het moment! Klasse! En last but not least, thx. to all nice partypeople and dj's for the nice photo-opportunities. Het was weer fun om jullie allemaal ontmoet te hebben :) Vooral de mini-after in de camper van Anja was erg gezellig :) Leuk om nog even door te gaan tot 03.00 uur op de parkeerplaats. Thx. Frans & Ginny voor de music en ride home! Moeten we vaker doen :)

The Act Of Painting- 現代絵画の可能性を追求するわたしたちの活動にとっ て "直感"は とても重要なものだ。わたしたちは無意識を可視化することに関 心を持っている。絵画を制作する過程で、無意識から生み出される”直感”は、思 考の遥か前からはじまっている。身体意識の延長として筆を用い、絵を描く者は 絵画の中で自己の存在を再確認する。美術家は、自ら創り出す空間の一部となる と同時にそれを観察し、自身の行為について考え、評価している。よって、生み 出される作品はつくり手の個人的な意識に限りなく結びついている。作品には表 現者それぞれの感性により、身体性や構築性が強く現れてくる。
今回発表する紙作品には 無意識を反映した抽象的な概念が 挿入、適応、具体化されている。紙に描いた作品は、美術家の個人的な記録、記念碑的な作品のた めの日記や習作として鑑賞することもできる。それらの作品は 直感的思考そのものであり、変化しながら追求される掴みどころのないイメージでもある。更な る実験の余地があり、例えば油彩画と比較すると柔軟性を帯びている。この柔ら かさ故に、作品には”直感"が反映されている。
美術家集団 "The Act of Painting" による ”直感” (紙作品)の展覧会は 銀座・ギャラリー枝香庵をはじめ、パークホテル東京 コリドーギャラリー34、 宝塚市立文化芸術センター・キューブホール、モエレ沼公園(調整中)へと巡回し ながら、抽象芸術家のための国際的な地位を確立することを目的としている。わ たしたちは常に、絵画に対する新しい接し方を追い求めている。日本各地の展覧 会では、現地のキュレーター、美術家などと交流をしながら、西洋の概念と 東 洋の視点との融合を試みる。その融合は絵画における”直感”の意味を探求する 豊かな土壌を築く 更なる発展の鍵となるだろう。

We are pleased to announce the exhibition "The Act of Painting “Intuition” (Works on Paper)" at Gallery Echo-Ann (Flat) Ginza Tokyo. It is the second traveling exhibition in Japan by the artist collective, "The Act Of Painting" (TAOP) based in the Netherlands.
TAOP is an international artist collective that travels around the world in search of the meaning of abstract paintings. Their theme for the traveling exhibition in Japan this year is "intuition" reflected on works on paper.
We hope this will be an opportunity for you to feel/think about abstract paintings.

The Act of Painting, Intuition (works on paper)
Intuition covers a great deal of what The Act of Painting collective's exhibitions and projects are about. Selected artists are concerned with making visible the unconscious. In the process of painting, the act itself is often hundredths of a second ahead of the thought. With the brush as an extension of the body's awareness, practitioners create a painterly environment in which their own presence is essential. They are part of the space they are creating and are simultaneously observing, appraising and considering their actions. Thus the works they create are closely related to their personal consciousness. Depending on existential differences the works may have a gestural appearance or a more constructed figure.
In these works on paper the abstract notion of the unconscious is being inserted into the image, adapted, materialized. The works on paper can be seen as personal notes of the artists, journals, studies for large-scaled monumental works. They are thoughts, volatile, searching, non-fixed images. There is room for experiment, the works are less loaded than an oil painting for instance. The lightness provides the brain an opportunity to manifest itself in a more intuitive way.
In this series of exhibitions, starting in Tokyo at Gallery Echo-Ann and continuing at Park Hotel Tokyo, and Takarazuka Arts Center the artist's collective The Act of Painting establishes itself as an international platform for abstract artists. Furthermore, the collective explores new ways of approaching painting. By inviting Japanese artists to participate in the shows, The Act of Painting is merging the eastern vision with the European notion of intuitive painting. The fusion can prove to be a fertile ground for further development in defining intuition.

この度、ギャラリー枝香庵 Flatにて オランダを拠点とした
The Act of Painting "絵画と行為"(TAOP) の日本での2回目となる展覧会
"The Act Of Painting INTUITION (Works on paper)" を開催させていただく運びとなりました。
TAOPは、抽象絵画の意味を探求しながら、世界を巡り活動する国際的なアーティスト集団です。
今回のテーマは "直感"と"紙の作品"
みなさまとご一緒に抽象絵画について考える機会になりましたら幸いです。

Intution raps at his album release show in Los Angeles on june 23rd. Intuition is an underground rappper who is underated in the hip hop scene.
This is a rather elusive vehicle but a stroke of intuition made me check where it might be and hey presto it was at Victoria. Abellio London 9544 is the sole Euro 6 engined E40D in London service. Here it is on the C2 to Parliament Hill Fields.
