Not mine, I'm afraid, but adorable just the same. Ziggy likes eating carrots, running around like an idiot and chewing furniture. HSS everybody!

I have not great skills in Photoshop, but just for fun I tried to make a card for Halloween.

I hope you have a great time on this eccentric day. Unfortunately Halloween is not part of our culture, but I admit that in recent years Brazilians are trying to introduce, unofficially, this celebration in our calendar :)

This sweet girl is one of six baby red squirrels frolicking all over the front yard for the past few weeks. There will be more but this group is the first. Three out of the six have distinct white streaks and this girl is pure blonde with just hints of red. I have never seen one like her before in my life. I am wondering if the light grey male squirrel that has settled here since winter is the dad. I've been spending time with them all and they have become quite friendly. We shall see who stays and who goes once they get older.

A Eurasian species introduced to the Bahamas, which spread to Florida in the late 1970s. It was quickly established there, then spread westward in the 1990s, and it has now reached the Pacific coast. The population is anticipated to increase and spread northward into Canada. Its westward expansion follows a similar expansion from its original range in Asia all the way to the Atlantic coast of Europe. Breeding: nest is a flimsy construction of twigs placed in trees, particularly palm trees, but occasionally on man made structures; normally 2 white eggs, occasionally more; 3 to 6 broods a year from the same nest. Migration: not a migrant in the true sense, in that individuals are not known to return to breeding or wintering grounds. But individuals move great distances, thus enabling the species to quickly expand its range across North America.

A fairly recent arrival to North America, this large pale dove can now be found across the United States. It flaps on broad wings, and often soars briefly, with wings extended slightly above horizontal as it seemingly floats down to a landing. Polytypic. Length 12.5".

Found this one in my backyard. Polk County, Florida.

This introduced species is now widespread across England and Wales, but has a somewhat patchy distribution in Scotland and is localised in Ireland.

Native to North America, the Canada Goose was first introduced to Britain in the 17th century. UK numbers have more than doubled since 1984, the result of predator-free nesting sites, good feeding opportunities and low hunting pressure.

While North American populations are highly migratory, those here are largely sedentary. However, many individuals make a significant moult migration to favoured sites, such as the Beauly Firth, where they complete their annual moult.

California quail were first introduced to NZ in 1862 in South Auckland. They spread in most parts of NZ despite a low survival rate in chicks. This year I had a family move into my garden, but unfortunately several of the chicks appear to have not survived. The family now consists of only one remaining chick. They forge in my courtyard and the papa always stands guard on the fence and warns them of any danger. They have become familiar with my presence, that I will bring them no harm.

1 old boy, 2 female puppies wasn’t enough for us. So we got Henry.

Sadly our sweet Paddy has passed away at 14 years old <3

We miss him greatly... until we meet again. <3

Our little Peppa now has a new sister Rosey to play with :)

Couple weeks ago we had to send off to doggie heaven our 13 year old schnauzer that had a stroke.

After a long search, Moose has joined the Krach household to bring some new joy ... and to keep our 10 year old schnoodle busy. Moose is a puppy schnauzer with lots of spunk ... and kisses too.

Captured here when we took Moose down to visit with my Dad on this lovely Autumn day in Maryland where Moose got to play with our dog, and my sister's dogs as well. While being tiny ... he played very well with them. Wore them all out quickly actually.

He seems to not be camera shy as well ... which is nice for me ;)

Introducing Lucy. She is my son's pet and has just moved into the living room while we fix Erics floors. The poor creature has managed 7 years but now it's time for her to put up with my camera. She doesn't mind at all. The most cheerful little soul she is!

Our new puppy -an apricot standard poodle boy!

How hard is it do you think to get four people to agree on a name? The front runner at the moment is Harpo. He will have the same golden curls as the famous Harpo Marx.

George the cocky was quite interested in the pup and behaved reasonably well but as soon as the pup starts crying, George, not be outdone, does his monkey impersonation much louder, drowning out the howls of the pup. Then George throws in a bark or two. It’s all “look at me, Look at me.” Alfie the budgie looks on and wonders what all the fuss is about.

We have an interesting time ahead to try to socialise the puppy in the crucial next few weeks when it is the very thing we are unable to do. We have bought an App that plays all sorts of noises to expose him too and we have been encouraged to dressup and wigs, glasses and hats so he is exposed to different looks. We will take him in the car to look out the window and do what we can to help him understand the world is more than just our home and the four people in it.

Is it too soon to say I am in love?

I encountered this Cheetah family on the Mopani road not far from the Phalaborwa gate. I spent at least 20 minutes alone with them before the next homo sapiens arrived and had enough time to bond with the kids. The mother was a bit uninvolved and constantly looked the other way. She is the one in the background. I was selfish and parked my vehicle far away from the Cheetahs in such a way so that nobody could pass me and approach the animals to take photos with a mobile phone or the like and in the process chase them away. I really had a royal time. Haven't seen Cheetahs in three years.

These are what appears to be two siblings huddling together. Such gorgeous looking little characters. Little Owls were introduced to New Zealand from Germany between 1906 and 1910, with the intention that they would help control the numbers of small introduced birds, which were becoming a pest in grain and fruit crops. With the exception of one pair released in Rotorua, all were liberated in the South Island. Little owls bob up and down if startled and have an undulating flight pattern.

Common in varied wooded and forested habitats, parks, gardens, farmland with hedges and scattered trees. Forms flocks in winter; often visits garden feeders. Handsome, brightly colored male is distinctive, with bluish cowl, pink face and breast, black-and-white wing pattern (colors muted in winter). Female much drabber but shares male pattern; especially note the complex wing pattern. Both sexes have white outer tail feathers, often striking in flight such as when flushed. (eBird)

We encountered chaffinchs (another introduced species) over much of the country, but did not stop to photograph them too often since our focus was on native birds. This female, though, was in a parking area so I took advantage of the opportunity.

...one of the world's sweetest cats!

Introducing another canine I met, Hiccup. She was at the Duncan Farmers Market with a lot of people around to meet and greet so wasn't into being still. As a result I was lucky to capture this portrait. She's such a friendly soul.

Let me introduce you to the little brother of the great iron lady - Garabit ! 140 years, Happy Birthday - Cantal - Auvergne - France - Europe

Garabit, a superb valley inhabited by an iron giant

Since its construction 140 years ago, the Garabit viaduct has aroused the admiration of all. At its feet, the Truyère has dug its bed in a sumptuous valley with multiple facets.

The Garabit Viaduct and the Truyère Gorges are closely linked. Gustave Eiffel's work would not be there if the river had not carved deep, impassable gorges. In the 1870s, the extension of the railway line was considered towards the South, to connect Paris to Béziers. It took the ingenuity of Léon Boyer and Gustave Eiffel to imagine and build the Garabit viaduct, uniting the two banks of the river.

Four years of work to unveil a majestic viaduct 564 meters long and 122 meters high.

An improbable masterpiece. Registered in 1965, it will wait until 2017 to be classified as a Historic Monument. A new challenge presents itself to it, that of claiming a classification as a world heritage site. Since the end of 2017, a world heritage application procedure has brought together 6 large-arched metal viaducts in Germany, Italy, Portugal and France. The Garabit viaduct and the Viaur viaduct represent the French part.

Normally quail quickly hide when a human being gets too close to them. However, in Zealandia Ecosanctuary they're used to people. This juvenile walked towards me and straight past me.

California quail are native to western USA from Oregon to the Baja Peninsula. They have been introduced to most continents as game birds. The first release in New Zealand was at Papakura in 1862 with later releases in Nelson, Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago.
